Awful. Is it for a boy or girl?

MrsGB2225 · 23/02/2017 13:15

I just see tree, sorry

LawJed · 23/02/2017 13:16

A boy Confused

OP posts:
Loyly · 23/02/2017 13:18

I really dislike it.

Pleasemrstweedie · 23/02/2017 13:18

Hmm, if you want to name your baby after a Hebridean island, try Lewis, Harris or, at a pinch, Coll.

OMGyoumustbekidding · 23/02/2017 13:19

I don't dislike it. It is a place name, but it is unusual (probably better for a girl)

PovertyJetset · 23/02/2017 13:20

Made up spelling? A lifetime of corrections and explanations and some people will judge that name as being indicative of being "chav" Shock

ZogsAnon · 23/02/2017 13:22

Is it pronounced Tie - ree or Tee - ree (I quite like the second.
I think a lot depends on your cultural background tbh, but if you like it - use it and no civilised person will criticise it to you.

Vanillamanilla1 · 23/02/2017 13:24

It sounds made up
I don't like it

FreshStart2017 · 23/02/2017 13:24

I only know girl's that have that name.

Gallavich · 23/02/2017 13:24

It looks made up, even if it isn't.

BertrandRussell · 23/02/2017 13:24

Awful.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/02/2017 13:24

Not great tbh.

Shallishanti · 23/02/2017 13:25

it's an island

FreshStart2017 · 23/02/2017 13:25
  • but they spell their name Tiree.
LawJed · 23/02/2017 13:25

No, it's not made up? Hmm

OP posts:
Sirzy · 23/02/2017 13:28

I read "Tyre" first. Certainly wouldn't be a name I would use

Haffdonga · 23/02/2017 13:33

I can tell you like it would be a very unpopular choice on Mumsnet. If you really really like it then probably best not to ask here what other people think of it. You'll only hear negatives. Just stick with your own opinion.

If you want a name that people on MN like then go traditional, avoid names that start with Ty or sound invented.

BertrandRussell · 23/02/2017 13:36

"No, it's not made up? hmm"

Isn't it?

Where does it come from?

Gallavich · 23/02/2017 13:57

Apparently it's a Scottish island? Even so, it's not a person name.

EggsEleven · 23/02/2017 13:58

Haff I'm not a fan of traditional names but I still think Tyree is a terrible name. Yes, if the OP loves it she should go for it but she did ask for opinions.

reuset · 23/02/2017 14:02

Any Scottish posters heard of Tyree as a name?

I misread it as Terry, initially Grin Would that do?

reuset · 23/02/2017 14:05

To be fair it has a modest usage as a name, OP. Maximum of 13 in a given year, but still... That surprises me. What do you know about it?

CycleOnTheLEFT · 23/02/2017 14:09

The island is Tiree. I don't know any Scottish people with that name.

BertrandRussell · 23/02/2017 14:12

It's not a Scottish island.
