My husband and I are going to be having a baby this year. We haven't found outage gender but like Iona for a girl. Our surname is Woodland.
Does Iona Woodland sound silly because the surname is a noun?

Yes, OP, with the experience of having lived with it a long time, I'd recommend you don't do this. You'll probably get sick of the 'hilarious' jokes before she can even write her name. It is 'one of those' names that slightly haunts you. I've grown to love my name but have a 'non-noun' maiden name so always have had the option to keep that if I married a Mr Carr or something. If you really don't care what other people will inevitably say though, give her whatever name you like! And like others said, Ione is also lovely - or Skye, if you just like Scottish islands?

Haha! Yep. Any Iona jokes and you're all banned!
Just kidding.
