I've just found a note of possible names on my phone and I found it really interesting the variety of names we considered. We've had two girls so never got to choose a boys names, my absolute favourite boys name is Sebastian and I really would have pushed for that.

What are your unused names? Here are mine:

Boy

  • Ethan
  • Sebastian
  • Alaric
  • Tierney
  • Mylo
  • Remy
  • Elijah

Girl

  • Willow
  • Madison
  • MacKenzie
  • Ellen
  • Caitlin
  • Isabelle
  • Ella
  • Amelie
  • Ava
  • Georgia
  • Zara
  • Savannah

The first time I got pregnant I had Marianne in mind, but I had a miscarriage. I had a couple more miscarriages before I had my kids and I didn't name the babies or mark the due dates as I know some people do, but still, I felt a bit too odd about using Marianne when my first daughter was born.

First time round - Lily Grace for a girl - only girls name we could come up with. Second time round we were still discussing girls names between contractions. No left over boys name as we knew instantly which boys names we both liked and ended up using them!

squizita · 15/02/2017 19:37

Louise - she didn't look like one
Carmelle - again didn't look like one
Nemisis - more of a joke at one pretentious end of our family who do the Greek legend names without caring what they mean.
Harper - too earnest-teacher (also husband is a lawyer)
Plus I'm a bit of an old alt girl.
Bernard - she is a girl
Paul - ditto
Francis - too goody two shoes.

We had a few girls names that we liked when carrying DD 15 years ago. The ones we didn't go for were
Luthien
Arwen (lucky we didn't, cousin 4 weeks older called this!)
Anastasia

We decided on her actual name about halfway through. Boys names would have been
William Anthony or
Rhodri Llewelyn

spiderlight · 16/02/2017 11:45

For a boy: Rowan, Aidan, Isaac, Lucas, Oscar.
Never got to choose a girls' name but it would have been Seren, Freya, Rhiannon or possibly Rowan if she looked like one.

Loveday

We couldn't think of any boys names.

Chathamhouserules · 16/02/2017 15:35

Austin or Lawrence (baby 3 was a girl so didn't use)

Delia, Stella (nice in principle but don't suit our girls)

BeMorePanda · 16/02/2017 16:40

Felix
Audrey
Valarie
Venus

Chatham I went with a Stella and it works very well for her :) Though she is now asking that we call her Lizzie (oh to be 5)

DaisyBD · 16/02/2017 17:14

DS1 - Raincloud (absolutely overruled on that)
DS2 - River (ditto)

I still wish I'd been stronger and gone with them, I was too easily swayed. I particularly don't really like DS2's name, which was not that common at the time but has raced up the charts since and is now in the top 20 I think. Dull.

I also had two miscarriages and I didn't name those, but I sometimes think about other children I didn't have, ones that never existed. I have an imaginary daughter with current DH and she's called Silver.

Stella is lovely, panda, and funnily enough Lizzie was on our list too. But not so keen on Liz for some reason so ruled it out. Has your Lizzie/Stella thought of that?

MrsPringles · 16/02/2017 19:46

Miley
Pearl

Dylan
Jack

We had a little boy, one of those is his middle name Smile

fluentinsarcasm · 16/02/2017 20:46

Patrick

QueenofallIsee · 16/02/2017 22:13

DP got quite fixated on the name Ottilie (pronounced alot like utterly). I was so glad that we had 3 boys in quick succession and it never came up.

I loved the name Jesse for a boy and he refused as he couldn't get passed it being a girls name. Jokes on him now though cos Breaking Bad really changed that!

Laurendisorder · 16/02/2017 22:54

The DDs names I wanted were either Esme, Freya or Lillith - had to concentrate on boys names when DH wanted Merlyn! DS1 still shocked at the very thought! DS2 has an unusual name - which he loves - but it's not Merlyn!

Barnum · 16/02/2017 23:14

I had so many.....we have 5 DC!!

Hugo, Arlo, Jesse, Rafe, Rufus, Elliot, Finn, Lukas, Louis, Caleb, Gabriel....

Ishbel, Bella, Caroline, Jessamy, Andie, Eilish, Keziah, Evie, Olivia, Amelie, Phoebe, Lottie, Ella, Erin....

In the end we had Jacob (always known as Jake) , Orin, Theo, Barney and Bo (DD) Smile
