We are expecting dd1. Will you please help us with our short list?

We quite like Scandi names. I am Norwegian-born and DH is half English half Swedish. We are also both British citizens and settled here but visit family in Scandinavia frequently.

In order of our my current preference:

1 Stella
2 Hilda
3 Selma
4 Vera
5 Elisa

Would you mind rating these names to help narrow it down?

I appreciate these are not popular or common names in Britain but would they work here? Thank you for your help. Cake

Stella is one of my absolute favourite names ever, my husband didn't like it all so it never made any list for ours Grin. So it's my run away favourite.

  1. Stella
  2. Elisa (although I prefer Elise)
  3. Selma

Way down the list would be Vera and even further down the list would be Hilda.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/02/2017 11:22

I love Stella too.

BaymaxismyHero · 10/02/2017 11:23

Really like Stella! Not keen on the others.

Pogolphin · 10/02/2017 11:33

Stella and Elisa (really dislike the others).

Loyly · 10/02/2017 11:36

Stella is the only one I like.

marmitecheesetoast · 10/02/2017 11:45

I actually really love Hilda! Followed by Stella then Elisa.

Hassled · 10/02/2017 11:50

Stella and Elisa are both great names.
I had a Great Aunt Hilda who ate broken glass for breakfast, so that name is forever associated with formidable old bats.
Selma - not sure. It makes me think of Selma, Alabama and the civil rights march. Vera - it is a nice name but for someone in their 70s.

Jooni · 10/02/2017 12:10

I really like Vera. Stella is nice and not too uncommon here so would fit in well. Elisa is nice but a bit bland IMO. Selma and Hilda sound a bit too old and clunky.

reuset · 10/02/2017 12:11

Stella then Vera. Maybe Hilda.

Sophronia · 10/02/2017 12:52

I like Vera and Hilda

ExpectoPatronummmm · 10/02/2017 12:53

All old lady names
The type of old lady who smokes 300 fags a day

Ordinarily · 10/02/2017 12:57

Stella and Elisa are both nice.

Myu5ername · 10/02/2017 13:02

Love Stella, it was on my list.
Second choice Elisa

BackforGood · 10/02/2017 13:05

I think they would all work in England, as they are all easy to pronounce if you see them written down, and spell if you hear them.

Vera and Hilda both come into what I would think of as "old lady names", which, if the raft of Mabels, Ediths, Ivys, etc that are happening at the moment, almost certainly means they will become very fashionable soon if they are not already so.

Purplebluebird · 10/02/2017 13:16

1 Stella

anonbecauseiwanna · 10/02/2017 13:40

Stella makes me think of beer Blush

strawberrypenguin · 10/02/2017 13:41

Stella then Vera

KlingybunFistelvase · 10/02/2017 13:57

All lovely names!

I really do think I like them all, but Stella, Vera and Elisa are my favourites.

I knew a Swedish Ebba at uni. I always thought it was a lovely name.

DramaAlpaca · 10/02/2017 14:19

Elisa & Stella are lovely.

The others are unappealing granny names to me.

mum2be2boys · 10/02/2017 15:30

I like Elisa and Stella. I'm not keen on the others on your list I'm afraid, but they would work in the UK.

Pogolphin · 10/02/2017 16:38

Also like Estelle and Estella
