Hi so we've narrowed our list to

Sowenna
Lowenna
Elowen
Eseld
Rosenwyn
Lamorna
Sennen

We hope to move to Cornwall soon. Are there any of these names that we should strike off as a no no and in particular any that would make people in Cornwall roll their eyes

From the Devon/Cornwall border. They are all clearly trying to be very Cornish names, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that!
I'll literally write what I think;
Sowenna - Sow, female pig
Lowenna - Nice but not as nice as Morwenna imo
Elowen - Nice
Eseld - Personally don't like
Rosenwyn - Bit OTT
Lamorna - Again OTT, its like Lorna on steroids
Sennen - My favourite. Beautiful beach too

I know a family with two daughters; Lowenna and Sennen and I think they're rather lovely

Cosmicglitterpug · 06/02/2017 14:50

Elowen.

RedSauce · 06/02/2017 15:28

Elowen

Sennen is also okay

Frankiefarr · 06/02/2017 15:46

Thanks. I really like Elowen. I would pronounce it El-OW-en but like Elle Owen but some poeple have said L.O.N if that makes sense

It's not on your list but Merryn is my favourite Cornish girl's name.

Frankiefarr · 06/02/2017 15:49

Friend has a five year old Merryn so that's out unfortunately.

And Elle-e-win

Oh, shame. if Merryn is out then Elowen is my favourite from you list followed by Sennen.

Lumpylumperson · 06/02/2017 16:01

They're ok.

I've always lived in Cornwall.

I don't like Elowen. To me it sounds like the alphabet a bit. L M N O P...

I also personally aren't a fan of the 'wenna' sound.

I like the name Sennen but if you're going to bring your child up in Cornwall it's the same issue as Lamorna, it might be a bit strange. 'Hey Sennen, want to go to Sennen this weekend?" Maybe use it as a middle name?

EggsEleven · 06/02/2017 16:36

What about Tressa or Mabyn?

EggsEleven · 06/02/2017 16:44

Or Serana rather than Sennen?

Cornishmumofone · 06/02/2017 17:23

I'm from SW Cornwall and have only heard two of those names IRL: Lowenna and Lamorna. If you like place names as names, what about Zennor?

hippy1952 · 06/02/2017 17:31

Dellen.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 06/02/2017 17:35

Sowenna - sorry, looks and sounds awful to me. Agree with PP, makes me think of sows
Lowenna - fine. I grew up with two girls with this name
Elowen - fine, but feels meh
Eseld - looks like it's missing something, I think I want it to read like Isildor.

Rosenwyn - this is just lovely
Lamorna - place name. Will you live near Lamorna Cove? Lovely as a name though
Sennen - same question as Lamorna, but I really dislike this as a name

Penzance girl reporting! (Scotland before Pz, but hey) .

Sapphireshadow · 06/02/2017 17:36

My favourite from your list Elowen. Also like Lowenna and Sennen.

DarkLikeVader · 06/02/2017 17:43

I love Elowen. & I do know a small girl called Sennen who lives in Cornwall so it is used as a name (I don't like it though, especially as it gets shortened to Sen which I automatically (unfairly, I know it's mean) translate to special educational needs in my head every time I hear it).

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/02/2017 17:44

Carenza/Kerensa. It was on my own shortlist in case I had a girl. ..but I had a son.

WallisFrizz · 06/02/2017 17:44

Elowen is lovely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/02/2017 17:44

Rosenwyn is beautiful.
Lowenna, just lovely too.
Also like Merryn.

Waterfeature · 06/02/2017 17:46

Loveday is, well, lovely.

LunaLoveg00d · 06/02/2017 17:46

Surely it HAS to be Demelza??

NC1nightstand · 06/02/2017 17:49

Said it on many a thread but it's Loveday every time for me.

Waterfeature · 06/02/2017 17:51

High five nightstand.

Sophronia · 06/02/2017 18:21

I like Rosenwyn, Lowenna and Lamorna best. The Sennen I know is a boy.

crapfatbanana · 06/02/2017 19:59

Eseld and Rosenwyn are my favourites from your list.

I'm in Cornwall and we had Rosenwyn, Morenwyn and Athwenna on our list but didn't use any of them.

I have a friend whose daughter is Lowen, which I like more than Lowenna and Elowen.

What about Ysella, Ebrenn, Ebrel, Elestren, Rosen, Kensa, Steren, Nessa, Morvoren, Bennath, Bryher, Bronnen, Dellen or Dellenyk?
