George - middle name for a GIRL?

Hi everyone, looking for some honest advice.

What do you think of Alice George for a little girl?!

We're keen to have a family link or something sentimental for her middle name but have a selection of bad female names in our family! We do however have a male George and a female George in the family as well as a close female friend called George (who was my husband's best man!) The females are both Georgina but only known as George.

Do you think it's too masculine and weird? Or just something fun/quirky? And does it work with Alice?

Honest opinions please!! Thanks :)

I really like it. X

I think you should give her a fuller more feminine version so she can make her own mind up later. Georgia, Georgie, Georgina or others like that which can be shortened back to George.

Alice George is so cool I'd be tempted to use both names all the time! She'll be a singer when she grows up, great stage name!

EssentialHummus · 29/01/2017 21:26

Georgia, Georgie, Georgina or others like that which can be shortened back to George.

Agreed.

ILoveDolly · 29/01/2017 21:27

Personally I'd use Georgina. Alice George sounds cool tho

smudgedlipstick · 29/01/2017 21:45

Love it

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/01/2017 21:59

Oh I like it. Alice George is gorgeous.

ItsNachoCheese · 29/01/2017 22:01

I like it. My dad is called george and my middle name is georgia after him. My ds has george as his middle name and my dn is a georgia.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/01/2017 22:21

Alice Georgia.

NameChange30 · 29/01/2017 22:23

George is a boy's name. Georgia and Georgina are both perfectly nice girl's versions.

Sweets101 · 29/01/2017 22:24

Love it. I wouldn't 'feminise' it is can't see the point.

MotherofA · 29/01/2017 22:25

Georgie? Cute idea though like it !

NameChange30 · 29/01/2017 22:27

All of you who like George as a middle name for a girl, would you use Georgia or Georgina as a middle name for a boy?

Flippingecktucker · 29/01/2017 22:38

It's lovely, and very cool.

Catherinebee85 · 29/01/2017 22:43

I love Alice George. It's quirky and cool. I don't like Georgina but Georgia is ok. Don't see why you should have to make it more feminine though if the name George has meaning for you x

clary · 29/01/2017 22:48

I don't really get this recent trend (possibly only on MN!) for suggesting/using boys' names for girls. And then getting annoyed about "genderising" names.

YY would you call a boy Georgina? And if you did, don't you think it might make his life difficult? George is a boys' name. It's DS2's middle name actually so I really like it. But I wouldn't call a girl George. Or Jeremy. Or Patrick. Or Henry. Just as I wouldn't call a boy Emily. Or Sophia. Or Arabella. Or Felicity. Some names are unisex, but most are gendered. Middle names I agree are less vital, but they do come out at exam time and other times and I think there is no point setting your child up to be laughed at. What's wrong with Georgia or Georgina or Georgiana?

crapfatbanana · 29/01/2017 23:00

Yes. Alice George, just as it is.

Sophronia · 30/01/2017 01:11

I'd go with Alice Georgina. I don't think she'd appreciate having George as a middle name.

HerRoyalNotness · 30/01/2017 01:27

I really like it as is. It works

MrsMeeseeks · 30/01/2017 08:11

Yes, I like it.

Stuffedshirt · 30/01/2017 08:19

Georgia is lovely.

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 30/01/2017 09:13

George is a common surname and all the females with it as a surname are not seen as any more masculine than any other female. Therefore as a middle name I think it's lovely. Alice George is a beautiful name. Go with it. Most people don't routinely use their middle name anyway.

NameChange30 · 30/01/2017 09:29

That's a weird argument. There are lots of masculine surnames and no/few feminine ones. Why make all first and middle names masculine as well?!

reuset · 30/01/2017 09:32

Yes, I think you can use George on it's own. It works for both the male and female relatives who are known as George

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/01/2017 09:32

Don't like it. It's a boys name.
