Should we stay safe, or go for the name we love (that's seen as 'made-up' and 'chavvy')?

What the title says! I'd rather not say what the unusual name is, as it's rare. I like 1 spelling of it.

Or Olivia Grin

I like Olivia, but love the other name. Should we just go for it?

How about Amber Leigh. You can call her amber Leigh and as she gets older, she can choose.

I'm not a fan of amberleigh but there's a lot worse out there and it's rare to find a name you both love so do what feels right x

Ohyesiam · 27/01/2017 20:41

Sound like the setting for a spin of of The Archers

AngharadTheSplendid · 27/01/2017 20:41

I think Amberley is totally cute and not weird AT ALL! Plus if she hates it she can just introduce herself as Amber. Amberleigh spelling just seems a bit naff.

Olivia is dull as dishwater don't do it.

Sapphireshadow · 27/01/2017 20:42

I actually quite like it. Go with the name you love.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/01/2017 20:44

I quite like it too, have always liked Amber.

liquidrevolution · 27/01/2017 20:45

Amberle is a character in a terry brooks novel. I have always loved it. I prefer that spelling to yours but your spelling will mean less miss pronounciation.

Go for it.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 27/01/2017 20:46

Please don't call your child Amberleigh, it's a really dreadful name!

gunting · 27/01/2017 20:47

Amber is lovely.

Amberleigh.. please no. I'd assume it was Amber-Lee.

llangennith · 27/01/2017 20:47

The pregnancy hormones are affecting your judgement Grin

CatRash · 27/01/2017 20:56

Sounds like Amber Leaf to me - i.e. tobacco

Pluto30 · 27/01/2017 21:12

Amberley or Amberly is much better.

And I like it more than Olivia, but that's because I like the name Amber.

iwasagirlinavillage · 27/01/2017 21:21

I know of an Amberle (with that spelling) it always sounds like a mixture of names rather than a name in its own right.

greeeen · 27/01/2017 22:04

I don't like it but if you love it go for it. I think you will regret it if you use the safe option!

Bubbles34 · 27/01/2017 22:17

Amberleigh is too long, what about Ashleigh? Pronounced like Ashley. My friends called that and shortens it to Ash.
Or Emily is nice too.

There is a lot of Olivias around!

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 27/01/2017 22:42

napqueen yes, I like Ember too, though it may be a little bit too hot to handle. And OP, unhelpful things? I hope that wasn't directed at me. It made me hesitate to suggest the rather exotic Frogmella, though I saw someone beat me to it. I would suggest Ashtray, but that's a boys name.
All joking apart, I think Olivia is lovely though there are sooooo many of them and Amberleigh is actually rather nice. Go for it if you love it.

glitterglitters · 27/01/2017 23:01

I grew up near Amberley. All it has is a chalk pit.

MommaGee · 27/01/2017 23:13

I like Amberleigh, it is quote American and it will get shortened to Amber or similar but I think its cute

reuset · 28/01/2017 00:20

I saw a sign on a new build house a few months ago, it was named Amberleigh. Fine. Not so great on a human. It's probably 'rare' for a reason

DramaAlpaca · 28/01/2017 00:50

With that spelling I want to pronounce it with the stress on the third syllable, AmberLEIGH. It's marginally better spelled Amberley, but not much.

Jooni · 28/01/2017 09:32

I don't think that's too out there or embarrassing. It's not something I'd choose, but nor would I be surprised to meet an Amberleigh. I can see it getting more use over the next few years. I think the spelling Amberley is much more attractive though.

MrsMeeseeks · 28/01/2017 09:36

I like Amberleigh. People who describe things as 'chavvy' are losers, don't take any notice of their opinions.

AntiQuitty · 28/01/2017 09:39

It's lovely!

Ds1 has a "yoonique" name and just this week said he was giving out books and everyone has boring names you could put on anyone!

No I didn't congratulate myself, I told him not to say such things in front of his little brother (top 20 name the year he was born)!

Use the name you love!

TeshiB · 28/01/2017 09:40

Olivia

Atlast2017 · 28/01/2017 09:40

If you're not sure, you could go for Amber Leigh, two separate names. Then you and she have the choice of using her full name or just Amber. I know an Amber and it is a lovely name and she is a lovely person.

iwasagirlinavillage · 28/01/2017 09:42

Yes, Amber Leigh would work much better.
