Should we stay safe, or go for the name we love (that's seen as 'made-up' and 'chavvy')?

What the title says! I'd rather not say what the unusual name is, as it's rare. I like 1 spelling of it.

Or Olivia Grin

I like Olivia, but love the other name. Should we just go for it?

It's quite a nice name, also doesn't look like an obvious misspell like Summa (local playgroup attendee)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/01/2017 19:02

Oh God no, it's like ambling. Slow plodding name!

IHeartKingThistle · 27/01/2017 19:02

I actually know an Amberleigh! I don't think she uses it, she goes by a completely unrelated NN! So I'm no help!

MushroomWorld · 27/01/2017 19:02

I thought that might be the reply! I know I'll always regret it, I just know it.

Amberleigh is a place name. What are you thinking? Could be worse, Southend, Brentwood, Winchester......

Mistletoze · 27/01/2017 19:02

I really like it, but the poor child will spend her entire life telling people how to spell it.

Thumbcat · 27/01/2017 19:02

I don't think it's that bad. If you love it then use it. Olivia is a bit dull in comparison.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 27/01/2017 19:02

I'll normally pop up to defend a "chavvy" name but not Amberleigh I'm afraid.
Its a bit clunky and it doesn't roll off the toungue. Go with Olivia

y0rkier0se · 27/01/2017 19:03

I like it spelt Amberely but it's very American sounding. But so are names like Maddison and Brooke and there's plenty of children with those names.

senua · 27/01/2017 19:03

Last night I dreamt I went to Amberleigh again.

Sorry, don't like it.

5OBalesofHay · 27/01/2017 19:03

Olivia then

Floralnomad · 27/01/2017 19:04

There is a reason why nobody used the name last year . If you love it do it , personally I think it sounds like a village not a person .

Lilacpink40 · 27/01/2017 19:05

I think it's ok as made up names go, sounds like a quaint village. I guess another spelling would be Amberly.

LilQueenie · 27/01/2017 19:05

I've heard of it before and I don't think its that out there. Pretty normal.

IWantATardis · 27/01/2017 19:05

I know this isn't what you're asking, but I prefer the spelling Lee (or Ley) to Leigh if Leigh's to be pronounced as Lee.

MovingForwardSlowly · 27/01/2017 19:05

Its fine bit chavvy Olivia is snoozeville

Chottie · 27/01/2017 19:06

It sounds like the name of a place.

Please go with Olivia Flowers

OreoHeaven · 27/01/2017 19:06

Olivia Amberleigh works

EweAreHere · 27/01/2017 19:06

I agree with another poster, Amberley would be better than Amberleigh.

But... not convinced. Sounds like you wanted to alter Kimberly ...

Olivia is wildly popular. Quite a disparity between your two choice....

DumbledoreBumbledore · 27/01/2017 19:06

I know an 8 month old Amberleigh!!! So there was at least one born last year.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 27/01/2017 19:06

How about Frogmella?

TheTantrumCometh · 27/01/2017 19:07

Someone I know is PG and going to name her DD this. It wouldn't be my choice and if you already have doubts about actually using it it probably isn't for you either

SittingDrinkingTea · 27/01/2017 19:07

I'm sure there's been a thread on Amberleigh before, and the consensus was it's a place name and not even a glamorous one. I don't even think it's chavvy, it's just not really a person name. Olivia is a bit dull though, surely there's a middle way between the two?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/01/2017 19:07

Amber Leigh is better IMHO.

MushroomWorld · 27/01/2017 19:08

Well, maybe 1, but not enough for them to show it on the database, so less than 3. I really love it, I don't have doubts as such but I don't know.
