Honestly, I hate Stella. It's either an awful throwback name or it's Stella Artois to my ear. By process of elimination, Violet is better.

Autumnsweater · 17/01/2017 09:41

I think Stella has a few negative connotations, it's either Stella Artois, or Marlon Brando in Streetcar named Desire:

Which Seinfeld took the piss out of and would go through my mind if I met a Stella:

I don't really like either tbh.

It's not about what a random internet person likes though, if you like it then go for it

wigglesrock · 17/01/2017 09:42

Stella Grin, I love it, always have done. My husband vehemently dislikes it so we didn't use it for any of ours but I've a real soft spot for it. Violet is a bit trendy Wendy for me at the minute.

Autumnsweater · 17/01/2017 09:42

I like Violet though. Lettie as a NN?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/01/2017 09:45

Stella.

Hate all the nicknames for violet though :(

Stella

Rosie5060 · 17/01/2017 09:48

I love Stella, it has strength and has an individual feel without being weird.

Violet is also lovely, to me is more of a romantic name.

Two very different feeels to these names. Personally I lean towards Stella, but only you know your bub Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/01/2017 09:56

Stella

TeshiB · 17/01/2017 10:43

Violet

Raines100 · 17/01/2017 14:17

I know 2 lovely Stellas, and it makes me think of stars.
Violet looks like violent.

SeashellHoarder · 17/01/2017 14:20

I love Stella, unfortunately vetod by dh 3 times! (He'd forgotten between DDS)

It is very unlike the names we went with in the end!

tooclosetocall · 17/01/2017 14:27

I don't think of the Brando association at all and I've watched the movie

Calling out each name several times should help 😀

TDmoocher · 17/01/2017 14:36

Tough - both are excellent!

Jooni · 17/01/2017 14:42

Don't like Stella, but Violet is lovely!

steppemum · 17/01/2017 17:03

not overly keen. Stella makes me think of a star which is nice.
Violet tends ot make me think of Charlie and Chocolate factory and the horrible violet in it, but it is in essence pretty.

Sophpau · 17/01/2017 17:38

Violet Defiantly

DowhatIwanttodo · 17/01/2017 18:14

Prefer Stella. I don't know why names like Ivy and Violet have made a comeback. I don't like them at all.

Sophronia · 17/01/2017 18:23

Not keen on either, but Stella if I had to pick

WallToWallDrugs · 17/01/2017 18:31

Violet, by a country mile!

Nonameyet1 · 17/01/2017 18:57

Not keen on Stella either I'm afraid, don't think it's a very pretty name. Love Violet.

nigelforgotthepassword · 18/01/2017 09:52

I love both.dd2 was going to be Violet but exh vetoed it.She now says, aged 9,that she would far sooner have been Violet than the name we picked in the end.
Stella sounds feistier, Violet is prettier.

Scattymere · 18/01/2017 15:52

Violet by a million miles, just beautiful and although becoming more popular, still out of the top 50 so the least common of the flower names. LOVE.

starkers1 · 18/01/2017 15:57

Violet- beautiful. It was only no.75 in 2016 list do hardly a trendy Wendy name?! Like Stella too but can't shake that slightly harsh edge it has.
