Hello Mumsnet!

Baby boy is 12 days old. We just can't decide. Some opinions would be very helpful.

The 8 names:

  • Aidan
  • Elliot
  • Finn
  • Hayden
  • Isaac
  • Noah
  • Oliver
  • Reuben

The one we like the least is Oliver - it has an obvious NN. We don't mind the name being shortened/given a NN, but I can't see him having 'Reubs' or 'Els', etc. written on his books at school, but Ollie may well be!

There is at least one of each of those in my son's preschool class except Aiden and Hayden.

Sirzy · 14/01/2017 18:31

I like them all except Hayden.

I think Issac would be my first choice

chocolatecheesecake · 14/01/2017 18:32

Oliver
Finn

Elliot and Hayden are clunky names which can't be shortened at all. Boys will always come up with a nickname, so this is giving licence to them to come up with something completely random.

I'd rather bank Olly than leave it to playground/adolescent boys to come up with something...

Finn feels short enough that boys might not get creative?

Noah contradicts my logic above but I do like it!

MollyHuaCha · 14/01/2017 18:41

Congratulations! Flowers I like:

  • Isaac
  • Oliver
  • Reuben
  • Noah
DarkestBeforeDawn · 14/01/2017 18:50

If you don't like obvious NN like Oliver = Olly you should beware that issac may become zach. I have a Noah so am biased with your list but also love Finn (but then I do have a Flynn!). Let us know what you decide!

Piper2017 · 14/01/2017 18:51

I just feel sad letting go of Oliver GrinGrinGrin but I know you're right!

Thank you all

I'd vote for any of them except for Noah and Isaac, both of which I dislike.

justanotheryoungmother · 14/01/2017 18:54

Noah! Smile

Sirzy · 14/01/2017 18:55

If you feel sad letting go of Oliver maybe that means that's the one?

Sophronia · 14/01/2017 18:57

The only one I like is Isaac.

maitaimojito · 14/01/2017 19:02

I like Reuben best and then Isaac.

FestiveStinkyPants · 14/01/2017 19:03

FWIW I have an Oliver and it doesn't get shortened, he will correct anyone who tries! Has done since he could talk.

TDmoocher · 14/01/2017 19:05

Elliot and Hayden are my favourites. I suggest putting them all in a hat and picking one out

FestiveStinkyPants · 14/01/2017 19:05

The only other name I like on your list is Aiden

practicallyperfectmummy · 14/01/2017 19:12

So many Oliver's already, Noah gets my vote. Trying call i him a name a day see what suits best

My worry with Aidan is you have all pretty much spelt it Aiden! So that might need to go Sad I suppose if he likes Ollie, not much I could do! Which would upset me a bit Grin

I love Finn. There are Olivers everywhere atm.

cheekyfunkymonkey · 14/01/2017 20:04

Elliott or Finn.
Too many Issacs and Oliver's around but both are nice names if that doesn't bother you.
Aiden and Hayden are quite middle aged names.
Reuben and Noah are ok, but not as nice as Elliot or Finn.

SirChenjin · 14/01/2017 20:05

It's funny - there are very few Olivers here, but lots of Finns. Wonder if it's the Celtic/Gaelic connections?

Meffy · 14/01/2017 20:05

Issac and Elliott

FannyUmbongo · 14/01/2017 20:05

If you still can't decide between the 8, find another name. You've not found the right one yet.

Chatelherault · 14/01/2017 20:06

Elliot
Reuben
Isaac

BikeRunSki · 14/01/2017 20:13

Aidan - one of my favourite names

Elliot - like this too, but spelling issues over how many Ls and Ts

Ruben - couldn't usd it as is an ex's name, but still love it.

Isaac - v popular amongst my children's peers (5-10 years old), but does lend itself to the nn Ike.

Finn - 2 a penny
Noah - 10 a penny
Oliver - very popular and getting boring
Hayden - would be pronounced Aidan most the time anyway.

Piper2017 · 14/01/2017 20:18

Fanny actually, I think it's because we love them too much! Not that we can't pick because we aren't sure on if we like them, but because we love them all!
