I'm so unsure. I think I love it? Sister is Violet - it doesn't really 'go', does it?

What are your opinions? Smile

I really like it. Like others have already said, it's an underused classic and due a revival. Not keen on any of the nicknames, though.

Mindtrope · 12/01/2017 11:49

It'a a lovely name, I love classic names.

The abbreviations are nice too- Mike, Mickey and Mick.

KoalaDownUnder · 12/01/2017 12:02

It's very Stephen, David, Brian, Phil.

Naff 'dad' names that are nowhere near due a revival (IMO).

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/01/2017 14:41

Michael is a great name, timeless.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2017 14:45

Love the name Michael.

Ohyesiam · 12/01/2017 14:53

Great

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2017 15:05

I think it's quite nice to name a child after a relative. Some 'dad' names are in revival (e.g. Stanley, Fred) and some could be. I like Alan, Brian, David, ...
They tend to be quite sensible or dull compared with Alfie. Mackenzie, Oscar, Riley, Theo, Tyler, Zander...

Trinpy · 12/01/2017 15:15

I love it and I've met Michaels of all ages so it's not a 'dad name' at all. There are 2 Michaels in my family and neither have had their name shortened.

Its not overused and not as likely to date like more fashionable names (Noah, Alfie, etc.).

MackerelOfFact · 12/01/2017 15:39

It's one of the worse 'traditional' names IMO, along the lines of Simon, Paul, Philip, etc.

Nicholas, Edward, George, Matthew and Thomas are all much nicer 'classic' names.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2017 15:48

I like all those names, and would also add Richard, Mark, Charles, Peter, James, Jonathan and John. Why are Raphael and Gabriel now trendy but Michael not?

KindDogsTail · 12/01/2017 15:53

A lovely name. It is classic, masculine and has nice nicknames. An archangel's name too.

Michael and Voilet sound beautiful together in my opinion.

mistermagpie · 12/01/2017 15:55

I know a young Michael and it really suits him. So far (he 7) he's only ever been Michael. Its quite an ageless/timeless/classic name and very innoffensive.

Not sure it 'goes' with Violet to be honest, but it depends how much that matters to you.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/01/2017 15:57

I've always hated it. I'm not sure why.

I like a lot of names I consider are in a similar style - Stephen, David, Andrew, but just can't bear Michael for some reason.

jollygoose · 12/01/2017 15:59

I think the posters who say Michael is dull are just blinded by what is currently fashionable. It seems everyone chooses ancient names with added eees or yss. Michael is classic along with Andrew, Daniel, Richard and I could go on. Personally I think Michael is lovely - as long as not shortened to Mikey.

Secretlythesame · 12/01/2017 16:01

I love it! I would have really pushed for it for DS but it doesn't go with our surname.

Aderyn2016 · 12/01/2017 16:06

I love it. Not at all 'Brian' like imo. It is classic and doesn't date.

FatOldBag · 12/01/2017 16:13

I like it, it's on my list for bump.

stoopido · 12/01/2017 21:08

I love it. But then ever Michael I know and have met have been good looking so I suppose I associate it with that. Hmm

MrsNuckyThompson · 12/01/2017 21:09

Love Michael, don't like Mike or Mikey.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/01/2017 21:19
