Amelia, Ava or Olivia?

ShowMeTheWayHome · 07/01/2017 12:49

These are my front runners but I really can't decide between them!

I feel;

Amelia is quite a mouthful to say and I'm not sure what people will shorten it to. An Amelia I know is nicknamed 'Meems'.

No one I speak to is over keen on Ava.

And Olivia is very popular!

Can you please give me your opinions?

Thanks Smile

All incredibly popular- Ava more so than Olivia where I live! Amelia is my favourite of the three- and it is usually shortened to Milly.
I would advise against Ava as, not only is it very popular, it is easily confused with all the Eva/Evie's.
Olivia ends up as Liv/ Livvy which I personally don't like, but alone it is a nice name
Have you thought of Emily? I find it is less popular than the others for under 5s

Blackbird82 · 07/01/2017 13:15

I like Ava the best.

FreddoFrog · 07/01/2017 13:27

I like Olivia the most from that list.

Emilia instead of Amelia?

AvaBird · 07/01/2017 15:21

Ava's my name and I love it. It's retro and cute but can be pulled off by an adult woman. My sister's an Amelia and she loves her name too as it's classy but feminine. And my daughter is an Olivia Beatrice, which I LOVE and she's never been a Liv/Livvy just Olivia. Obviously I love all your names but would urge you to pick Ava!! Grin

All incredibly popular just now. Will it not bother you that they will probably share their name with umpteen other girls at nursery and school?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/01/2017 16:31

Ava.

ShowMeTheWayHome · 07/01/2017 16:31

Thanks for replies.

I don't like unusual or 'new' names so am really struggling.

Amelia. And they're all lovely names - so popular for a reason.

GinIsIn · 07/01/2017 16:34

None of them are offensive but they are all amongst the most common girls' names in the UK, so it wouldn't be my choice to use one of them....

EthelEgbert · 07/01/2017 16:35

Amelia is lovely.

1horatio · 07/01/2017 16:46

I don't dislike any of these. They are just very very popular.
I prefer Emilia and Ada.

user1483387154 · 07/01/2017 16:49

Amelia

1horatio · 07/01/2017 16:50

If you don't like unusual or new names... what about names like Gemma, Jessica, Rebecca, Felicity, Victoria, Katherine, Louisa, Emma, Laura, Leah? I mean, they aren't new or 'unusual'. But they aren't very popular either (currently).

congratulations 😊

SunCrusHH · 07/01/2017 17:28

Aida/ayda? Similar style but not as popular

sammyjayneex · 07/01/2017 17:30

I love Ava! I think Amelia is too over used and so is Olivia

Definitely Ava

reuset · 07/01/2017 17:35

Olivia, then Amelia.

HeadDreamer · 07/01/2017 17:38

They are all lovely and very popular. As someone says they are popular for a reason.

Pluto30 · 07/01/2017 20:00

I like Amelia best, but prefer it spelt Emilia. It then lends itself to the nickname Emmy, rather than the usual Milly (although you could get that too).

Prefer Olive or just Liv to Olivia.

Ava is lovely, but is very popular at the moment, more so than the other two (in my experience).

Glitterous · 07/01/2017 20:03

Op - these are the top 20 girls names of 2015

Out of the 3 you like, I prefer Amelia. Since you have 3 choices why not just see what she looks like when born?

LexieSinclair · 07/01/2017 20:05

Ava is lovely. Everyone says it's really popular, but I only know one. So I guess it depends where you live.

Mrsjudelaw66 · 07/01/2017 20:07

Olivia. Libby is lovely too. Not keen on Ava at all. Way too popular and overused.

Daisychain2017 · 07/01/2017 20:08

Emelia then you can have emmie or Millie as nns

Or Olivia.

I like all the same names as you and we ended up with an Isabella (nn Bella) and neve Olivia (but neve spelt the Irish way - Niamh).

Mrsjudelaw66 · 07/01/2017 20:08

We live in South East London. There's loads of Ava's round here.

Daisychain2017 · 07/01/2017 20:10

Ps ignore the people who say things are overused or too popular - things are popular for a reason and you should give your child the name you want not a lukewarm name just to be a bit different

CactusFred · 07/01/2017 20:10

Are you fixed on those? They're way to popular for me even though all lovely names. Your child could risk being Ava B (or whatever initial) her entire school life.
