Roxane?

Just that really: what do you think of Roxane (this is my preferred spelling)?

We've already tentatively picked Astrid for DC2 due in June, but I'm wondering about this as a middle...

Astrid Roxane - yay or nay?

NapQueen · 03/01/2017 21:49

You really ought to have two Ns as the spelling you have looks like it ought to be Rox Ayn

squoosh · 03/01/2017 21:50

Roxane looks like a drug brand name. Roxanne is nice though.

PurpleDaisies · 03/01/2017 21:50

It looks like you don't know how to spell Roxanne. What's the reason for the mis spelling?

pinkmagic1 · 03/01/2017 21:51

I love the name but looks better with 2 n's.

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2017 21:51

Astrid Roxanne is nice.

Roxanne really does need that second N.

Empress13 · 03/01/2017 21:52

Keep thinking of the Police song about the hooker sorry not keen and yes def spell it with 2 n's

Mamatallica · 03/01/2017 21:52

Agree with NapQueen, the name is fine but the spelling is off putting and I would pronounce it differently too. Looks more like it would rhyme with rain rather than nan.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/01/2017 21:52

With one N it's pronounced Roxaine isn't it?

Roxanne is lovely.

cherrycrumblecustard · 03/01/2017 21:52

I think both spellings are awful, sorry! I like astrid, though.

PurpleDaisies · 03/01/2017 21:52

Apologies I should have said it's a rare spelling not a mis spelling.

Mrsderekshepard · 03/01/2017 21:53

My dad wanted to name me Roxanne safe to safe if he had got his way I would of changed it.

OreoHeaven · 03/01/2017 21:53

Roxanne with one N doesn't sit right IMO.

Gallavich · 03/01/2017 21:54

Roxane is pronounced Roxayne.

Hellofromtheotherside16 · 03/01/2017 21:54

I love Roxanne spelt that way.

kel12345 · 03/01/2017 21:59

I like the name, but I'd say 2 n's looks better really.

Jooni · 03/01/2017 22:03

Thanks everyone for commenting on the number of n's Confused

We are a partly French-speaking family and this is a perfectly legitimate spelling, pronounced exactly like Roxanne. I do take your points but it will be a middle name and therefore not needing to be pronounced/spelled out on a daily basis.

I was really looking for opinions on the name itself and specifically on the combo with Astrid - any thoughts on that please? N's notwithstanding?

NapQueen · 03/01/2017 22:04

Ok well if you want my opinion on Roxane (as opposed to Roxanne) then I'm not a fan.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/01/2017 22:06

I love Roxanne/ane.
Astrid is also nice, so yes, Astrid Roxane.
I prefer Roxane Astrid though !

squoosh · 03/01/2017 22:06

Roxan(n)e is much nicer than Astrid.

Glitterous · 03/01/2017 22:25

Two of my favourite names so it's a big thumbs up from me!

If I ever have another dd Astrid is the front runner. Roxanne doesn't work with DP's surname so I'll never use it Sad

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2017 22:43

Ah, now you've said you have a French connection Roxane makes perfect sense.

So I'll amend my previous post - Astrid Roxane is a nice combination.

Pluto30 · 04/01/2017 00:58

I don't like Roxanne/Roxane at all.

Reminds me of the song by The Police, which is about a prostitute. There's really no getting away from that association as it's such a famous song. It's a bit like the name Lola bringing up the image of a transgender woman thanks to the song by The Kinks. I'd argue, however, that Lola is more usable as it's been more popular than Roxane as a given name.

So, long story short, not a fan.

UnderbeneathsiesTheMistletoe · 04/01/2017 01:20

Roxanne wins by a nose.... a big nose, and a red dress.

Sorry. Not a fan. Why not Rosalind? Or Rose?

Teapot13 · 04/01/2017 02:53

I kind of like the single n, it reminds people that it isn't an "-anne" name like Luanne or Mary-Anne. It's a Persian name.

I wouldn't worry about the song.

Jooni · 04/01/2017 09:17

Thank you all. It's a controversial one then!
