Dissuade me from wanting to use the name, Sirius.

I think it would go well with our DS's last name. Hubby is not feeling it.

Please tell me potential teasings/pet names etc. Or why it might be a good choice.
I love the name and the meaning plus I'm a massive HP fan.
Other option for me is Benjamin...
I'm finding choosing boy names difficult!

I would hand the responsibility of naming to your dh. Otherwise your son will end up called Sirius.

EssentialHummus · 20/12/2016 09:06

I prefer Benjamin.

SorenaJ · 20/12/2016 09:08

Sirius is a gorgeous name, with cool associations. The only thing is Sirius-serious, I guess. Also don't use the middle name Lee. I guess if you want to go all in, Lee would actually be cool, particularly if you had an interesting surname.

But Sirius is great!

@myoriginal3
The problem is he has no suggestions either!
We combined two names for our DD so was straight forward and easy. This is proving to be quite the task.

I know a Sirius! His mum isn't particularly a HP fan but is Iranian, it's apparently quite a popular name in that area. It's pronounced slightly differently than I would have imagined. I think it's lovely, but wouldn't necessarily use it for one of my kids.

BikeRunSki · 20/12/2016 09:16

Siriusly?

SpotTheDuck · 20/12/2016 09:40

Sirius is the Dog Star I think? So there might be teasing about that.

Also (and you'll prob know this as a HP fan) there's a popular fan theory that Sirius and lupine were a secret couple so there might be some gay teasing.

I actually like the name, but you did say you wanted to be dissuaded!

MavisTheTwinklyToreador · 20/12/2016 09:43

I wouldn't, it's too Harry Potter.

Swearwolf · 20/12/2016 09:55

Before my oldest was born, DH and some friends were coming up with some names for the baby, and being huge Bowie fans the number on name was Sirius - middle name Moonlight (under the...). I now can't hear the name without hearing that song.

In all seriousness though, I'd rather Sirius than something as boring as Benjamin. I think you need to scrap both tbh and find something you both like - probably not as out there as Sirius but more interesting than Benjamin. What about Benedict if you like Ben?

You say your DH has no other ideas, but is there anything else you like?

SausageSoda · 20/12/2016 10:47

Serious?

Sorry, it sounds too much like the above word for me.

DaisyQueen · 20/12/2016 10:50

I love Harry Potter so I think it's an awesome name. My Oh wouldn't agree to it in a million years though

PotteringAlong · 20/12/2016 10:54

Stick to Benjamin.

Belmo · 20/12/2016 11:03

Sirius is fantastic. Do it do it do it!

Staranise123 · 20/12/2016 11:18

Sirius is a great name!

ChocoChou · 20/12/2016 11:19

How about Cyrus?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/12/2016 11:26

Sirius is great. I'd go for that.

plimsolls · 20/12/2016 11:28

How about Silas? Or Cyrus as PP suggested.

Sirius is ok. I haven't read HP so don't know those connotations but I do hear "Serious" with it.

RattieOfCatan · 20/12/2016 11:43

I love it and the HP connotations! I'm love Cyrus too as others have suggested.

Joinourclub · 20/12/2016 11:44

I prefer Cyrus.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/12/2016 11:45

All I can think of when I think of Sirius is this:

876TaylorMade · 20/12/2016 11:51

It is known as the Dog Star. And is the brightest in the Earths Sky
It has connotations throughout all civilisations on earth and carries the same meaning give or take.
Don't like Cyrus or Silas as they wouldn't go with his last name. And definitely, don't like Benedict.

Only teasing I can think of is "seriously"... and being called "siri"..
But is it that bad?

WellErrr · 20/12/2016 11:53

I think it would go well with our DS's last name

Is it Black?

Please don't do this to your child.

876TaylorMade · 20/12/2016 11:59

@WellErrr

Oh God no! lol

Last name is along the lines of ravage.
