Dissuade me from wanting to use the name, Sirius.

I think it would go well with our DS's last name. Hubby is not feeling it.

Please tell me potential teasings/pet names etc. Or why it might be a good choice.
I love the name and the meaning plus I'm a massive HP fan.
Other option for me is Benjamin...
I'm finding choosing boy names difficult!

It's not Savage is it?

Sirius Savage?

Elbi · 20/12/2016 12:08

It's a great name but he'll get 'hilarious' people greeting him thus:

Funny person: You cannot be Sirius!!

Your son: Yes, yes I am. Never heard that one before...

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/12/2016 12:11

Just no...Hmm

876TaylorMade · 20/12/2016 12:11

@WellErrr Yes Blush

Good grief NO.

Why would you do that? I am sorry and I don't mean to offend, but no one in real life will probably dare to tell you.

Sirius Savage sounds like a cartoon character. Even in the event that he bypassed all the Harry Potter, Siri and 'siriously!??' jokes, teaming it with Savage would be a full on super villain name in its own right. Just don't!!!

Again, apologies Flowers

EssentialHummus · 20/12/2016 12:27

No. Savage is a tricky surname that needs balancing out. I don't think this'd be a good idea.

CakeRattleandRoll · 20/12/2016 12:29

I like Sirius, but not if the surname is going to be Savage.

TheHiphopopotamus · 20/12/2016 12:31

I think it would go well with our DS's last name

Is your last name Leigh?

Whatever it is, don't do it. Although, tbh, I think in 20-25 years time, Harry Potter will be largely forgotten (because it's rubbish. There. Someone had to say it.)

RattieOfCatan · 20/12/2016 12:32

andnone I love Potter Puppet Pals Grin

Lilmisskittykat · 20/12/2016 12:33

Unless you are huge Harry Potter fans... maybe not.

I have a friend who has called her kid hermonie and she's getting very annoyed at the Harry Potter comments... (she denies that's the reason and had no idea) but it was the first time I ever heard the name as probably most people.

1horatio · 20/12/2016 12:39

So....

I really liked Orion when I was pregnant (and when we didn't know we were expecting a little girl yet).

It's a star, I think it's actually Sirius Black's middle name and it is less... 'out-there' than Sirius.

AlwaysYes · 20/12/2016 12:44

The kids say no, they suggest Pip. Think it was a mouse in a book they were reading..... short for Phillip obviously... congratulations and good luck!

1horatio · 20/12/2016 12:47

Apollo, Cosmo, Rigel, Aries, Leo, Polaris, Orion, Eridanus, Cygnus, Corvus...

As you can see, I'm slightly obsessed with celestial names. If you knew DD's middle names it may be a bit apparent Blush"

I personally like Orion, Corvus, Eridanus and Rigel. Especially Orion and Corvus, tbh.

I think Orion or Corvus wouldn't be as 'wizard-y' as Sirius. And there's also less teasing potential, imo.

LotsoNumbers · 20/12/2016 12:50

I like sirius but that really REALLY doesn't go with your surname at all

Choccyhobnob · 20/12/2016 12:55

I was going to say yes it's cool, but I agree it really really doesn't go with Savage unfortunately.....

1horatio · 20/12/2016 12:59

Savage?

Sirius savage??! OP! No. just no. I'm so sorry.

But I do think Orion or Corvus or Rigel could work. But maybe that's just me being a bit blinded by my love for these names.

And seeing as you're a HP fan, Orion is the name of Sirius' father, apparently (justn

1horatio · 20/12/2016 12:59

*just googled it

ChocoChou · 20/12/2016 13:03

Oh no please no Sirius Savage Sad

GinIsIn · 20/12/2016 13:10

Sirius Savage?!?!! You cannot be.... Sirius! I'm so sorry but no - it's really spectacularly awful. It sounds like the villain from a 70s superhero film. Or a pornstar.

Falalalafffffffttt · 20/12/2016 13:10

Nooooooo! Please don't do that to your child.

Benjamin is a really lovely name and has lots of options for nicknames or shortening when he's older. It balances out your last name very well because you can make it either one syllable or 3. My vote is for Benjamin or, well, anything other than Sirius.

TeshiB · 20/12/2016 13:10

No and especially not with the surname Savage!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/12/2016 13:13

OP, Benjamin is a lovely name.

Vixxfacee · 20/12/2016 13:32

He's a serious savage.

MaisieDotes · 20/12/2016 13:40

Benjamin Savage is a great name.

Pretty sure I used a computer system called Sirius in one of my jobs. If I didn't, I easily could have.

SpotTheDuck · 20/12/2016 14:19

Oh gosh I'm sorry I don't think it works with that surname.

Benjamin is lovely and would work.
