We're having a boy a pretty certain we are calling him Rex (know some will think of a dog but dogs are called all sorts these days and we love the name!). Our surname is two syllables beginning with A-any suggestions for a middle name?

Rex is a fabulous choice Smile I think it works best with a longer, more mainstream middle name:

Rex William
Rex Harvey
Rex Oliver
Rex Benjamin
Rex Nathaniel
Rex Tobias

Rex is a great name but Donald Trump has announced Rex Tillerson as his nominee for secretary of state.

In terms of middle names, Rex William is the first that comes to mind.

You could go more out there, Rex Forrest

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/12/2016 12:29

I quite like Rex Oliver from the list above.

Lol, I'm adding that to my list of "obscure reasons not to use a name" Grin

I couldn't agree more re a longer, more mainstream middle name. I was thinking something with 3 syllables like Elliot maybe. Or even Harrison like Rex Harrison the actor!

I think it is a nice name. I am thinking that alliteration might just be the key with this name. Having initials R.R.in front of any surname looks good. Also, rhythm is important - so keep it to two or three syllables.

Rex Robert
Rex Rupert
Rex River
Rex Richard
Rex Raphael
Rex Rocket
Rex Reuben
Rex Reginald (although Rex is also short for Reginald, so this one is redundant).

NappingRabbit · 19/12/2016 14:34

I also think you need a longer middle name.

My first thought was Rex Alexander

Rex Cassius
Rex Tobias

Love Rex, no idea why 'Rex McGuiver' popped into my head but it did so I'm rolling with that as my suggestion. Or Nathan

Raines100 · 19/12/2016 19:07

Rex is an amazing name!

Not Rex Rupert- that sounds like Scooby Doo saying 'Lex Luther'.

Rex Eliot works well. Agree something longer.
Rex Matthew
Rex Benjamin
Rex Lewis
Rex Jonathan
Rex Alistair

I love all of Navy's suggestion.

However, I do think Rex Rupert is really fabulous. And R. R. Lastname really does always look good, imo.
