To wonder why Gemma is currently so unpopular? What do you think of the name?

I had to stay up yesterday evening and to keep me awake I started thinking about baby names for our 2nd child (I'm not pregnant yet, but depending on some developments we may start trying again after Christmas...).

Anyhow, I really like the name Gemma. It really works with my Italian heritage, the Italian part of the family could pronounce that one, it sounds lovely and I don't think there would be any issues with it in the UK (or am I wrong?).

So, do you like Gemma?

I love it. Very retro now but nice name.

Gemma Chan is on the TV a lot at the moment!

pink Imlike it as well ;)

Zhx3 she's in fantastic beasts, right? And she's super pretty.

Having a name that isn't too uncommon (but not popular right how) is also an advantage. If there was suddenly a notorious Clarissa that would probably have a bigger impact on what people think of DD's name than on the name Gemma...

I'm a Jemma, and my name is always being spelt with a G. I'm constantly correcting people. I thought Gemma was an Italian name after a saint. I was told there was no letter J in the Italian alphabet? So technically the correct spelling of Jemma is with a G.

Although anyone can spell it how they like ;)

choccy

Yes, Gemma is the Italian version. Mostly foreign-ish words (like jazz) are spelled with a J in Italian, it depends on the word origin. There's also Juventus, for example ;)!!
