Really loving this name for a dd (and think it goes well with our dc Eli & Aphra )

The only thing that would put me off is it being shortened to Cassie which I would not love.

So, what do you think of Cassia, do you think it is very likely to be shortened? What vibe to you get from it (we like quirky, not common but not batshit crazy)

We would pronounce it Cass ee ah btw.

I like it, but prefer the similar Kezia/Keziah

I like it, but expect it would be shortened to Cass or Cassie, as every name seems to get shortened these days
But then again I know a Hugh called Hughie and a Ralph called Ralphie, so you can't win any way
FWIW Cassia makes me think of a strong, dynamic young woman.

I really like it. I don't think it's necessarily true that names invariably get shortened, either.

Also - I know you obviously aren't asking about your older DD's name, but I love love love Aphra! All three names go very well together.

Yeah weirdly we lengthen names in this house as pet names. I don't have a problem with shortenings or nicknames as such it's that Cassie sounds a bit ditsy to me and don't love it.

Thanks Nell we love her name and have never regretted it despite it being a marmite name.

The other name I'm liking is Ida.

I think it'll be mispronounced.

The first thing I did when reading the title to this thread is wonder to myself whether it was pronounced cass-ee-ah or cash-uh.

I do think it'll be shortened to Cass/Cassie, in the same way that Cassandra almost always is.

I don't mind it, but, then again, I really like Cass/Cassie.

I also like the PP's suggestion of Keziah.

Love that name! What about spelling it Kasia? Would that stop people mispronouncing/changing it to Cassie?

shutup Kasia is definitely "cah-shuh" or "cash-uh", so it'd get rid of the OP's preferred pronunciation too.

I would have said Cass-ee-uh. That's so pretty!! (But I'm not a fan of Casha)

I also like the name Kaisa/Kaysa/Kajsa.

I had a Cassia in school with me, she got sick to death of constantly correcting people calling her Cassie. Other than that I do think it's very pretty.

It looks pretty, but at first instance I would pronounce as Carsha-ah

shutup Oh, weird. It's a Polish name and def pronounced Kah-shuh/Cash-uh, but maybe it's an anglicisation!

Love it. I know one and it doesn't get shortened to Cass or Cassie. But she's in her 40s so I've no idea if she had a nn at school

Pluto oh really, I never knew it was of polish decent! Saying that, I'm from Ireland so maybe we pronounce it differently or it's a different variation I've heard of over here!

I think Cassia is lovely, though I have to say I also prefer the suggestion of Kezia(h) - feels a bit spunkier, more along the lines of your other kids' names.

Ida is OK but Cassia is definitely more striking and seems to fit in a bit better with the others.

I think Cassia is a beautiful name. Helped by the fact the only Cassia I have ever known was my high school best friend. A German exchange student, half Japanese and half German. Very striking looking, incredibly intelligent and a lovely friend.
Also, friend was never known as 'Cassie'. Cassia isn't particularly a mouthful to say, and I don't remember anyone shortening it.
To me, 'Cassia' is one of the few names that remains unusual but not 'weird'.
Can't say I'm fond of 'Ida' though. Sounds like a great great aunt
