My first thought was of the children's book 'Emil and the Detectives' but I see it's a different spelling. I see there is an earlier thread about this name..

I like it a great deal.

Gruffalosfriend · 15/12/2016 06:51

Emil is great! But don't add an e at the end or are you French?

Ankleswingers · 15/12/2016 06:57

Beautiful- very nice Smile

kippersandcurtains · 15/12/2016 09:06

You'd get the wrong pronunciation without the last 'e' though? It should be 'emeeel' but would be 'emil'.

Yoarchie · 15/12/2016 09:23

Really confusing pronunciation

Pipilangstrumpf · 15/12/2016 10:03

Emil = Emeel

It's a fairly popular name in Germany, an old name becoming trendy again.

mikado1 · 15/12/2016 10:10

Emils also an option (Latvian). I like it.

ElodieS · 15/12/2016 10:12

Really lovely, we considered it for our son. The French spelling is with an 'e' on the end, but also an acute accent on the first 'e'.

Pipilangstrumpf · 15/12/2016 10:15

Adding an E makes it look feminine and prone to being pronounced Eh-myle Grin

So please stick with Emil! Great name!

Pipilangstrumpf · 15/12/2016 10:15

Unless you're French of course

Raines100 · 15/12/2016 11:00

Agree with pp. Emil not Émile. It's too close to Emilie at first glance. Fabulous name, though. Have you read 'Jo's Boys' by Louisa May Alcott? It's a sequel to Little Women. Fab Emil in the story.

GinIsIn · 15/12/2016 11:02

It's a bit confusing - somewhere between Emil and Emilie, which makes me unsure which name you are asking about.

Jooni · 15/12/2016 12:25

I like it. I also prefer the spelling Emil but I don't think the -e spelling would be too problematic.

Staranise123 · 15/12/2016 13:57

I like Emil. Great underused classic.

Why would you add an e to it? It's pronounced Eh-meel, not Eh-meel-eh Confused.

DollieDino · 15/12/2016 15:44

Emile is French... Stop implying that it's made up Hmm I know a gorgeous Emile - go for it!

DollieDino · 15/12/2016 15:45

Oh, adding the e, doesn't make it pronounced 'Em-il-ee' Hmm just like Louise isn't 'Lou-is-ee' Confused

GinIsIn · 15/12/2016 15:47

Dollie nobody said it was made up, just that at a glance people might not be sure if you meant Emil or Emilie

WaitrosePigeon · 15/12/2016 15:47

How is it prononunced?

I read it as ee-mile

WaitrosePigeon · 15/12/2016 15:47

Is it a boys or girls name Confused

DollieDino · 15/12/2016 15:48

Well, someone asked "why would you add an e to it"...

DollieDino · 15/12/2016 15:48

It's a boy's name - Emile is the French version and it's 2 syllables.

Staranise123 · 15/12/2016 16:15

"I read it as ee-mile" Excactly, unless you're French you might pronounce Emile like that. But I don't think the op is French or living in France.

Emil is pronounced Eh-meel. There can be no confusion imo.

heron98 · 15/12/2016 18:20

I also thought "Emil and the Detectives". Think that's a Swedish book.

Staranise123 · 15/12/2016 18:32

It's a German book by Erich Kästner
