I like it, what do others think?

I mis-read that as Emily at first as I have seen it spelt Emilie.

Could be embarrassing when he's older!

bigchris · 01/05/2009 15:16

I know one Emile
I think it's a lovely name

bigchris · 01/05/2009 15:17

it is not pronounced emily by tyhe way it is em-il

betterthanlife · 01/05/2009 15:19

Isn't it spelt Emil? going on hazy memories of Emil and the detectives.

LittleMissBliss · 01/05/2009 15:31

My neighbour has an Emile who is a teen they are Latvian.

She recently had a baby girl and called her................................................................................................. .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ...............................................................

Emily

I kid you not. Her son was more than a little pissed off.

MrsMattie · 01/05/2009 16:01

I know two men called Emil and a little boy called Emile. I think it's a gorgeous, gorgeous name.

EvieBear · 01/05/2009 16:45

Yeah I think it is spelt Emil in German - that book Emil and the detectives is German. But I would spell it Emile. Glad to hear positive opinions, I vowed a while back not to post my name choices as you get really worried when people react negatively!!

As for the Latvian woman - oh dear!

EvieBear · 01/05/2009 16:57

Lovely name.

littlelamb · 01/05/2009 17:00

Love it in theory, but not sure I'd be brave enough.

chaya5738 · 01/05/2009 17:02

I love love love it. Not sure why people think you'd have to be brave to use it. It is a very common name on the continent. I would probably spell it Emil.

pointydog · 01/05/2009 17:03

key words 'on teh continent'

EvieBear · 01/05/2009 17:05

yes i grew up on the continent and have a very international background - don't worry pointydog - i presume you are French?

Yawn. More evidence of Mumsnet/British parochicalism (by the same people who probably name their children Greek, Hebrew etc derived names).

I LOVE Emil/e and think you should go with it.

EvieBear · 01/05/2009 17:11

thanks chaya

I live in a very parochial place. I am giving my own personal opinion. That is what this thread is for. evie said nothing in teh op about being a continetal sort of gal herself.

pointydog · 01/05/2009 17:14

didn't realise you wanted everyone to be sweet and agreeable

salvadory · 01/05/2009 17:18

Love it!! I only know one Emile and he's egyptian but I loved the book as a kid too and think I prefer Emil. Either way it's a good un regardless of country of origin.

MrsHappy · 01/05/2009 17:23

I prefer Emil too.
Actually I would put it on my own list but it would be wierd given that my DD's name is not terribly different ...

RachieB · 01/05/2009 17:34

I like it

lmao @ Emile & Emily though ! wtf!

Fennel · 01/05/2009 17:50

Eviebear, I wanted to call dd1 Inigo or Jago, dsd2 Emil or Emile, dd3 would have been Rufus.

Sometimes I think it's just as well we had girls

Homebird8 · 01/05/2009 17:56

I love Emile. Go for it.

MrsHappy · 01/05/2009 17:57

Oh, I love the name Inigo. DH won't have it because of The Princess Bride...

Given that he named the last one while I was in a morphine haze this time I am bloody well choosing!
