Emmeline or Romilly?

[peeks head nervously round the door] Hello! I'm Isby and I'm new to Mumsnet. I'm expecting two bundles of joy. A little boy and a little girl! We have three children already. My oldest's first name is the same as the patroness of Paris and her middle name is the birthstone of October, which coincidentally enough is why I chose it! My only son (so far!) has the same first name as Roosevelt and his middle name is a family name, that is the same as an organ in the human body without a letter in it. And my beautiful youngest, has a name that means 'free man' and her middle name is the known name of the creator of Peter Rabbit. Get their names and I'll tell you what we call them in everyday time.

Anyway, if you don't want to play my name, here's the real purpose of this thread. I want to name my son Abraham Jude. His middle name is his dad's middle name. He will be known as Abe or Bram.
Our daughter's name is what we are struggling on! If we name her Emmeline, she will be Emmeline Olive and if we name her Romilly, she will be Romilly Juliet. Olive is a variation of my middle name but I don't quite love it. Emmeline would be pronounced Emma-leen. She would be known as Emmy and Romilly would be Romy/Millie. I'm worried that Emmeline will fade in to the background of Emily, Emilia, Emma etc. On the other hand, Romilly is so beautiful but I worry that it was originally a male name and is too different. Which would you pick? For Abraham's twin.

Romilly doesn't go with Juliet though unless you really want the Shakespeare connection

I would go for Emmeline, but that's probably because it's my mums name and I like emmy for short. Tried to persuade dh that we name our dd Emmeline but he preferred Emma so that's what we ended up doing so I recognise your concerns with others shortening the name or choosing to call her Emma or Emily (not keen on Emily).

Romilly is an unusual name and I like millie for short so I don't think you can go wrong with either this or Emmeline.

Good luck 🍀

P.s. Your other kids have pretty amazing names!

Emmeline is lovely.

Romilly is fab Smile

Romilly is luscious!

From the clue I thought your little boy's middle name was Oliver! Abraham and Romilly sound better to my ears

villainousbroodmare · 05/06/2017 12:23

Great names on all your children!
I prefer Romilly.

Sorry to sound so stupid, I'm dyslexic and have a bit of trouble with pronouncing. How would you pronounce these names? They sound wonderful

SugarMiceInTheRain · 05/06/2017 12:29

I live Emmeline and it was on my shortlist for Dd but I think Romilly goes better with your other children's names.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 05/06/2017 12:29

love that should say ^

UsernameInvalid66 · 05/06/2017 16:52

Glad you clarified the other names as I was struggling with the organ clue - Esticle kept coming into my head!

I think I like Emmeline better although Romilly isn't awful - my main problem with it is I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it out loud and I'm not sure whether it should be ROMilly or roMILLY!

Love Bram by the way.

LittleRedRidingHood99 · 07/06/2017 21:21

I know an Emmaline, but prefer Romilly it's a little different but has a lovely sound :)
