Opinions? Dh has suggested it again, last time we had a boy.

I'm.really unsure about it, I kind of like the name in itself, but think it's a bit........ I don't even know.

So, what do you think of when you hear it?

I really like it . I immediately imagine someone dark haired and pretty

thegirlinthecar · 10/12/2016 21:35

I'm probably just thinking of Megan fox but lovely name

Oly5 · 10/12/2016 21:35

Love it

onecurrantbun1 · 10/12/2016 21:36

I am massively biased but I love it.

It is feminine without being too prissy. It means "little pearl" which is quite sweet. I think it passes nicely as a grown up name but it is succinct enough to suit even tiny babies.

Joinourclub · 10/12/2016 21:38

I'm not massively keen on Megan, but I love Meg.

Pluto30 · 10/12/2016 21:38

It seems outdated to me.

I know a lot of Megans. All born in the 80s and 90s.

I prefer just Meg.

NickNacks · 10/12/2016 21:38

Also biased and so obviously love it.

It's simple, unfussy and yet still girly.

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/12/2016 21:41

Well, I didn't expect such a positive response. I don't know ANY Megans, but I think you are right Pluto about the 80's Ness if it. Maybe that's what bothers me.

MoonHare · 10/12/2016 21:41

It's 90s/00s imo. Very popular then but declining now so it would date her in 20 years as at the tail end of a name trend. Maybe that's where your doubts are coming from. It does however have a nice folksy/celtic vibe.
Would you like alternative suggestions?

NapQueen · 10/12/2016 21:43

I have a just Meg. Much prefer it to Megan.

I also liked Alice, Olive, Kate, Juliet.

Essexgirlupnorth · 10/12/2016 21:47

I have a Megan she is 3 and haven't met one her age. Like the option of Meg too. I don't think it is dated.

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/12/2016 21:49

Yes please to alternatives! Ds is Luke.

I also like Alice but is very popular. I like Emma and Hannah but dh not convinced. I actually really like some less usual names but there's no way dh would agree!

Sophronia · 10/12/2016 21:49

I prefer Meg short for Margaret. Not keen on Megan.

SausageSoda · 10/12/2016 21:51

I like Megan. It was on my list for my now 5 month old DD sometimes I wish we'd chosen it

Sophronia · 10/12/2016 21:52

Suggestions...

Anna
Ava
Clara
Charlotte
Eva
Emily
Ella
Grace
Harriet
Isabelle
Jessica
Matilda
Olivia
Rebecca
Rose
Sophie
Sarah

Sweets101 · 10/12/2016 21:57

I really like Megan, always have.

MollyHuaCha · 10/12/2016 21:58

I like Megan. Feminine, easy to spell and pronounce.

Essexgirlupnorth · 10/12/2016 22:04

I also had Caitlin, Erin on our list as wanted something with a Celtic feel but easier to pronounce and spell.
Couldn't have had Margaret with our surname as same as Thatchers maiden name.

MoonHare · 10/12/2016 22:08

sophronia has made some lovely suggestions, also how about
Esther
Thea
Evelyn
Martha
Briony
Lydia
Esmé

Not saying any of these won't date her though!
I like Alice, Emma and Hannah too. Know lots of Alice's but no Emma's or Hannah's.

MoonHare · 10/12/2016 22:10

Ooh yes to Erin. That's a lovely alternative.

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/12/2016 22:12

Oh I live Clara but dh vetoed it last time. We were considering rose as a middle name.

OP posts:
Normandy144 · 10/12/2016 22:17

I like it. Not sure if it bothers you but Prince Harry's current girlfriend is a Meghan, so slightly different spelling and early days in their relationship but it could bring the name back into the limelight again should that bother you.

Pluto30 · 10/12/2016 22:20

We've decided on Hannah if this one is a girl, so biased, but I love it. Grin

Inadither · 10/12/2016 22:23

I like it. Call the baby Megan and then abbreviate it to Meg if wanted. When she's older she gets the choice of which to use.

Enidblyton1 · 10/12/2016 22:35

I'm not keen on Megan - probably only because it seems so 1980s to me.
But I love Margaret with the shortening to Meg.
