Dan-eye (accent/stress on the eye)
Can also be spelt Danai.
It's a Greek name and in Greek the "D" is actually pronounced like a very thick "th" - a bit like the "th" in "the"

I would think Dan-aa - in the East of Scotland that would be easily confused with danae which means 'don't know'!
