Love the name Ezra but Dh insists it sounds like a girls name and has told everyone this to which we've received many negative comments and agreement that it sounds like a girls name!

This has put me off a lot but I do keep coming back to it!

Do you think it sounds like a girls name?? (have read it is in Turkey).

Is it really that unusual, do you know any in real life? I don't really want an unusual name, it's just that I like this one!

Do you think it will increase in popularity? It's 127 in the 2015 charts, my other children's names are around 15-20.

Driving myself crazy thinking about names and mot sure it's worth trying to convince Dh is I'm not brave enough to use it!

It's definitely a boys name, there are 2 at DS's school.

I really like it but then I like Old Testament names like Elijah, Asa, Seth, Caleb etc.

ChewedUpRope · 05/12/2016 19:31

Most popular boy's name of 2016 so far

I'm always wary of lists like that. What is it based on? Often it's based on number of visits to the name's page on their website, which is absolutely not reflective of people's actual choices.

I mean, can you imagine if the top 10 for 2016 actually changed from

OLIVER
JACK
HARRY
GEORGE
JACOB
CHARLIE
NOAH
WILLIAM
THOMAS
OSCAR

to all of a sudden

EZRA
ASHER
ATTICUS
DECLAN
OLIVER
SILAS
MILO
LEVI
HENRY

?

Never gonna happen! Most of those won't even be top 50.

Agree, ChewedUp.

The Office for National Statistics is the definitive source for most popular names, and they don't issue mid-year updates.

And the top 10 most popular names don't tend to change significantly from one year to the next.

PetalMettle · 05/12/2016 22:13

Love it. And yes clearly boys name.

namesstress2323 · 06/12/2016 20:43

do it! male sounding and cool but professional

BingThing · 06/12/2016 20:52

I love it but can't convince my other half either! What about Asa, Elias or Elijah as biblical alternatives?

JollyHockeyGit · 06/12/2016 21:38

Have never thought it was feminine. I love it but if you're having second thoughts how about Enzo? I love both Smile

ElizabethHoney · 06/12/2016 21:43

Love it and it's always a boys' name.

But if DH doesn't like it, it should probably be off the cards :/

GerdaLovesLili · 06/12/2016 21:49

My friends had an Ezra and now they have an Asa. I like both :-)

TheCompanyOfCats · 06/12/2016 21:54

Love it!

RustyPaperclip · 06/12/2016 21:55

Ezra is high up on my list when (if) the time comes, I love it! I really like Asa now as well. I had no idea that Ezra could be a feminine name though

SpeckledyBanana · 06/12/2016 21:56

Ezra Pound.

I like it, but then I am partial to an OT name.

oneplus2is3 · 07/12/2016 21:12

I know 2, both under 3 so yes getting popular. I like it!
