I've just been talking to a lovely, lovely older man called Basil.

I don't have a baby to name, sadly, so someone else MUST use it.

Awesome name!

Isn't it? Smile

I used to have a cat called Basil. I loved that cat. Baz for short.

SausageSoda · 01/12/2016 18:06

I'll let someone else have it - terrible name for a baby IMO. Great name for a cat though Grin

Manumission · 01/12/2016 18:07

I don't see why the cats should get all the best names Grin

I suspect everyone over 14 will just call him Basil Brush.

Pemba · 01/12/2016 18:10

Basil Brush and Fawlty Towers spring to mind. Plus in America don't they say 'Bay-zil', which would be annoying.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/12/2016 18:10

It just makes me think of Fawlty Towers. That's not a bad association though.

Manumission · 01/12/2016 18:10

It's an amazing name.

Soubriquet · 01/12/2016 18:13

No.......it's a cat!

EssentialHummus · 01/12/2016 18:21

I can only hear it as Prunella Scales screeching Ba-siiiil! Sorry OP. Great name for a cat, though.

KlingybunFistelvase · 01/12/2016 19:43

No thank you. It is quite cool, but not for me.

Manumission · 01/12/2016 19:50

Cool? It's distinguished and quirky.

Maybe I need to throw in some free middle name suggestions to sweeten the deal? I'll have a think Smile

In essence, I like it. But in reality I know I wouldn't be able to stop picturing Basil Fawlty, or indeed Basil Brush (my dad does a brilliant impression of the latter). Plus it would be shorted to Baz which is ABHORRENT.

YouMakeABetterDoorThanAWindow · 01/12/2016 19:57

I love it but it sounds awful in my accent, very Fawlty Towers.

Basil was also a darling cat.

Use it! X

I look forward to them!

My husband (early 30's) is called Basil.

NonFatTofuttiRiceDreamsicle · 01/12/2016 20:05

Enkopkaffetak · 01/12/2016 20:45

HoratioNightboy · 01/12/2016 20:50

Fabulous name, very manly! Makes me think of Basil Rathbone.

I was half-seriously contemplating it for one of my twin boys along with Leopold, but got vetoed instantly. Sad

Manumission · 01/12/2016 20:54

I love love love the Rathbone Sherlocks Smile

Ankleswingers · 01/12/2016 20:56

Love it but do immediately think of Basil Fawlty,

walruswhiskers · 01/12/2016 21:17

He was an AWESOME cat.

Everythingsr0sie · 01/12/2016 21:25

I LOVE Basil.

I know a wonderful Basil, he is early 80s but oh so cool and such a gent.

It will be a serious contender for me if I ever have baby no4 (and it is a boy!)

Rainatnight · 05/12/2016 20:48

DP and I used to joke fantasise about having a girl and a boy called Basil and Coriander, and for a long time referrered to the whole idea of kids as 'Basil and Coriander' Grin
