Trendy/Unique Boys Names!

MrsMoore2803 · 30/11/2016 16:06

So I am currently 7 months pregnant with my first babies (we're having twin boys!) and me and DH still haven't thought of names. We have been looking and have a small list of boys names that we like although we would like to add more to this list to decide from. Does anyone have any suggestions of "trendy"/"unique" boys names?

We are liking Jude and Flynn so far but would love to hear your opinions/suggestions.

Thanks :)

Surely if something is trendy that means it's used a lot, so not unique?
Have a look at the recent ONS survey of top 100 boys names - those in the top 25 = trendy, whereas those at the bottom are obviously more unusual. Or find something that's not on there at all!

MrsMoore2803 · 30/11/2016 16:10

When I say trendy I kind of mean hipster-ish? I realise I am not describing this very well. Sorry

Why trendy/unique?

Just choose names you like. The children will make them unique.

MrsMoore2803 · 30/11/2016 16:16

I just don't want to choose a very traditional name (e.g. Matthew) and want my children not to have like 5 other kids in their year with the same name...

Travis
Taylor

Jethro
Jet
Arrow

Jude is nice. Do you maybe mean something like cool / of the moment names? The only 'cool' / trendy people I know with baby boys have called them:

Wilbur
Wilfred
Leonard
Arlo

KlingybunFistelvase · 30/11/2016 16:19

Oh and Ezra!

MrsMoore2803 · 30/11/2016 16:20

KlingybunFistelvase Yes I do. Thank you

Asher

Bruno
Carlo
Dexter
Gus

Ike
Jasper
Jago
Jules

Roman
are some names I think of as 'hipster' however you could go super ironic like Clive or Wayne.

Being called Matthew would mean he's the only one in his class with that name Grin And that's not me judging that you would prefer a more unusual name.

It's difficult because it also depends on where you are in the country as to what is currently popular. Round here there are lots of Logan's, Max's and Henry's, but very few Charlie's or William's.

DD's name was in the 30's when we named her and is now in the 20's and she's the only in her year of 120.

I like Ezra, as has been suggested.

I'm finding it hard to think of names that aren't completely out there or too traditional Grin

Isaac
Isaiah
Elias
Teddy
Miles
Rafe

SassyPants19 · 30/11/2016 16:30

We named our little boy (now 9months) Rafferty...as an ex teacher I wanted something slightly different, something that didn't remind me of a nightmare student and something that he could make his own as he grows up...we like that it can be Raf, Raffi and Raffa. But do be careful not to give him a crazy unique name he then has to carry with him for the rest of his life. We recently met a zebedee who was known by his middle name because he hated his first.

KlingybunFistelvase · 30/11/2016 16:33

I love Isaiah as suggested and also wanted to suggest Wyatt which I also love.

Roscoe
Rex
Cole
Felix
Quinn
Arnie

angstybaby · 30/11/2016 16:38

this is hard because you think you have a relatively unique name and then your kid goes to school and you discover there are 3 other kids in his class with the same name!

I know a lot of boys called:
Harry
George
Arthur
Jack
Alfie
Lucas/Luca/Luke
Charlie
William
Max
Milo

Names I don't hear very often:
Obi (Obadiah)
Levi
and anything people our age are called: Steven, Michael, Matthew, etc

cheweduprope · 30/11/2016 16:46

If you google "hipster boys names", there are a ton of lists out there!

If you don't want your kids to have names that 5 other kids in their class have, you need something outside the top 50 and also, maybe more importantly something that is not amongst the top rising names in the latest charts!

It also depends where you live. In parts of London you'll find every second boy is called Milo, Otis, Arlo, Finn, Luca, Grey, Ezra, Stanley or Wilf. Hipster can mean typical. But that's not necessarily bad as long as you love the names.

What about Duke, Gulliver, Ansell, Hudson, Ike, Stellan, Waldo? Or try the American trend of surnames as names- that gives you a huge variety of names. Personally I'd stick with ones that originate from place names not tradesmen but that's perhaps my own personal snobbery.

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 30/11/2016 17:21

We have a Cohen, and Ethan and a Jack. Only 2 jacks in his year, 1 other Ethan and no Cohen's :)

Would you feel worse if you choose a name that is in use and there were others around, or if you tried really hard to have a name that you though you wouldn't encounter on another, but then there was one (in the next street, at the same school, in thesame clubs)?

Unfashionable names are not necessarily hipster, but there really won't be many around:

Nigel, Kevin, Graeme, Wayne, Kenneth, Godfrey, Ian, Roger?

CockneyViv · 30/11/2016 18:07

Corey
Hendrix
Lucian
Orson
Sonny
Curtis
Red

BikeRunSki · 30/11/2016 18:10

Peter
John

Highly unlikely to have any peers with these names.

Loafingaround · 30/11/2016 21:01

Caspar and Rex

Seth and Milo

Arlo and Conrad

Flynn and Jude (OP love these names!)
