Daughter is almost 10 months old... I don't know if I regret her name :(

I still love her name. However, it's very American... In the UK, no girls ever get named this. My mum hates it, but she soon got over it (but sometimes makes subtle digs)...

No one likes it (especially on here)...

I've had a few "oh, that's different! I quite like that!" Confused which I think was meant... However, I often get "oh, you don't really seem the type!" Blush which is just rude. Even HCPs seem to make digs - often constantly saying her name out loud (not when they're talking to her) like they're trying to understand why I named her it.

Like I say, I still love it, but I now feel awkward joining groups/clubs, as I know they'll judge her/me. It's only going to get worse when she joins school Sad

I don't know what to do.

Ffs why are people so fickle? I swear never in my life had I heard anyone even consider changing the name of their child until I came on this site. It seems as common as changing their bloody nappies. Your child's name is her name. If you regret it so what. It's her name.

ChishandFips33 · 28/10/2016 19:47

I like it!
If you pronounce it like Caitlin then maybe just have one N at the end - I think it would make the pronunciation clearer

It could be that people are saying it to test it out - Grace-Lynn / Gracelyn

Grace and Gracie as your pet name are lovely. I lost my long name as soon as I could and get known by a much shorter/softer version. Some friends are known by their middle names, I don't think there are stiff 'rules' these days

BellMcEnd · 28/10/2016 19:48

I know a 9 year old Gracelyn! It's a gorgeous name. I don't think it's "out there" at all Smile

DanicaJones · 28/10/2016 19:49

I just looked up the thread you mentioned and I see what you mean about people's reactions. I think the thing to remember though is that a lot of people who frequent this board tend to like names that are a bit unusual and cool. Names like Antigone, Ottily, Ptolemy etc, so those people are never going to like a name like Gracelynn. They wouldn't like my dd's name either as there are three in her class, so far too common. That doesn't reflect what the world at large thinks though.

JasmineS88 · 28/10/2016 19:51

Chish, I say it the same?? I prefer it with 2 Ns as I like it to be like 2 names together... with just one N, it feels like it should be said as 3 syllables like Madelyn isn't Made Lynn, Jocelyn isn't Joce Lynn, etc. IYSWIM? It would then make people think it was Gras-eh-lyn!

I like Gracelynn. Shortens to Grace too, which is timeless.

People are such idiots. Ignore them. I bet she'll like it.

paddypants13 · 28/10/2016 19:56

I like Gracelynn op.

If it's any consolation if I hear a new name I like I often repeat it a few times. I don't know why, it's like getting a feel for the name. Maybe that's why the hcps do it. (I'm repeating Gracelynn over and over as we speak!!!)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/10/2016 19:59

Beautiful name OP, never heard it before, don't change it.

That name is fine, sounds like a name ( unlike some).
I thought you meant you called her. Dizney starbucks or something.

Aoibhe · 28/10/2016 20:39

I think that's a very pretty name, and I'll admit that I'm (secretly) a name snob Blush

clippityclop · 28/10/2016 20:51

Goodness I was expecting some sort of hyphenated made up job (Tyraleonie-Shayle'een?). Gracelyn's really gorgeous. I favour classic names.

rainbow99 · 28/10/2016 23:48

I know a Gracelyn, shortened to Gracie Smile

pieceofpurplesky · 28/10/2016 23:55

I would stick with the lovely name Gracelynn - it will naturally form in to a NN like Gracie

MistressMolecules · 28/10/2016 23:57

Gracelynn is a lovely name OP, unusual but pretty!

Scrumptiousbears · 28/10/2016 23:59

OP not sure why people have responded badly in RL. There are some mad names out there and this is far from one of them.

chattygranny · 29/10/2016 00:10

I'd never heard Gracelynn before, so didn't think it sounded American, but think it's pretty. Both Grace and Evelyn are popular so I don't think it's at all odd. If you did decide to change her birth certificate you won't be the first, someone I knew called their DS Ashley, traditionally a male name. They then realised that most little Ashleys were girls and changed it. He was about the same age as your DD. It didn't trouble the baby of course!

IhatchedaSnorlax · 29/10/2016 00:12

I think it's lovely Op - please ignore any negativity about the name if you & your DP both like it.

FeralBeryl · 29/10/2016 00:30

Oh it's beautiful Smile
I think if you go a bit 'out there' with a name, you're on high alert for any type of reaction that isn't positive then worry and question yourself.
Mumsnet hates all my kids names too btw. Grin but I like them, they are saddled with them like them, so meh.
Whilst she's little, I'd refer to her as Gracie if it makes you more comfortable. DD3 has got a nickname and a big girl name

JudgeJudySheidlin · 29/10/2016 00:32

Who cares what other people say? Obviously you do OP but I think you may be being over sensitive as it's an adorable name. Just because someone says "that's unusual" (or similar), it doesn't mean they dislike it!

There are not many Gracelynns out there & that's not a bad thing because it already makes your DD even more unique than if she had a more popular first name.

goldielookingchain · 29/10/2016 00:39

It's a lovely name!!!!

llangennith · 29/10/2016 00:58

I thought it was going to be something awful! Gracelynn is pretty but that said, it's a mouthful and very American. What about calling her Gracie then she can decide for herself what she wants to be known as when she's older.

Myu5ername · 29/10/2016 01:02

Nowt wrong with Gracelynn

raviolidreaming · 29/10/2016 15:06

Coconutty - her dad likes it!

I thought this update was telling us that her name was coconutty, and now I'm hugely disappointed by Gracelynn!

ScarletForYa · 29/10/2016 15:13

It's not bad at all.

When you said it was American i thought it was going to be Madison or Paige or McKenzie or something like that!
