When you name your DC usual names then you have to be aware people might make comments in them. These children have to carry these names Atleast they have proper Christian names to go back to.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 28/10/2016 12:32

Buffy is a nn for Elizabeth (or it is in our family as well as OPs) my 80yo Gran is known as Buffy. I'm a huge BTVS fan so always assumed her name must be Elizabeth Ann Summers.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 28/10/2016 12:42

I didnt know it was short for elizabeth

One of my children is named after a character in Buffy and another from Angel

My dad was a Teddy Smile

I have no useful suggestions but some of the names you have been given are lovely

orangebird69 · 28/10/2016 12:42

I do like Xander for a boy. But I was never BTVS fan and my dh is a keen angler so people would assume that my ds was named after a fish Hmm

Angelto5 · 28/10/2016 14:17

The fish is spelled with a z (zander).

The name Xander is a nn of Alexander or is also a name on its own.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/10/2016 15:10

I know lots of geeky teens who are big Buffy fans.

Elizabeth is absolutely the best name for loads of cute nicknames. I know a Lizzie, a Betty, a Libby and a Beth.

MotherDuckSaid · 28/10/2016 16:16

Elizabeth and Edward are lovely names 😊
Would u like another name beginning with E?
Hav u already said if ur having a boy or girl this time sorry ?
I love Bernadette (birdie) 😊

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 28/10/2016 16:19

How can a teen not be a Buffy fan?
It has it all.
And Spike.

MotherDuckSaid · 28/10/2016 16:29

I 2nd Jonty, Love tht name !
Or u cud have Jonathon (goes nicely with jr other children's names) and jonty for short 😊

orangebird69 · 28/10/2016 16:40

Yeah, thanks Angel, being a fishing widow I know how Zander is spelled. It's pronounced the same though and people would assume this fish link. I also know it can be nn for Alexander. But i personally think picking given names because they have a cute or 'indervijewel' nn is a bit wanky and pretentious so I would use Xander as Xander. Not a nn.

Thumbcat · 28/10/2016 16:54

Buffy is a shortening of Elizabeth? How bizarre. I can't be the only one who never had a clue, I'd assume you were a fan of the TV show.

Evangeline - Evie
William - Billy

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/10/2016 17:03

Never heard of Buffy being a nn for Elizabeth. Did know a Spike whose real name was Spencer, IIRC. Probably about 21 now. Am I alone in thinking of Nelly the Elephant when I hear that name? Nell is much better.

Angelto5 · 28/10/2016 17:16

I have a ds called Xander. He is 10 & only 1 person has ever said it's a fish!

I have also met people who say it's an unusual name & where is it from-so not everybody realises it a nn for Alexander.
