Brogan - boys name or girls name?!

I've come across the name Brogan, which I like for a boy, but I've seen it used a lot for a girl, and I know a few girls with the names, but no boys.

Around when I was born, it was apparently a lot more popular for girls (165 girls vs 34 boys), but last year, it was much more popular for boys (58 boys vs 16 girls).

Should I add it to my boys list, even though the Brogans my age are girls? Or should I let it go?

I've only ever met a female Brogan but I do think it's a rather masculine name

It reminds me of the derogatory Australian term 'Bogan'.

I've met one girl called Brogan. How about Brody?

I knew a female one. She must be about 23 now.

I have only ever encountered two female Brogans. (One is 5 or 6 now the other much older) I also know it as a surname.
It sounds masculine enough, but many people will perhaps associate with being a girl's name.

I think it's more a boys name, because it reminds me of brogues. But girls can wear brogues too

2 girls i know are Brogan it is 1 of those names you can unisex it isn't an ugly name whatever you decide

As a surname (Irish) I think it would be a legitimate boy's name and would work if you were Scottish If you needed a justification.

It's not even a particularly nice last name, let alone first name. I'd think it was a boy's name, not a girl's though.

Yep, sounds like Bogan. Or Bogey ( sorry ). Ugly either way.

if you don't know what it is, and you want to use it then assume most people will feel likewise. It's not very nice for either sex though tbh.

and i am someone who had Murphy on a shortlist for one of my kids.

I know a girl with the name. Not one of my favourite names ( and one of my girls has a surname first name)

People actually voluntarily use this as a name for their kids??
