Edwin, thoughts?

Just wondering what people think of the name Edwin? It's a family name so and DH would like it for a middle name as a tradition, but thinks it's maybe too obscure/old fashioned to be a first name and would prefer something more common, but I really like it and think it's a great first name.

It's a great name, an understated classic Smile

Old fashioned/obscure names are very cool these days though! And I've seen lots of people suggest Edwin as something slightly different to Edward, so I think a lot of people quite like it.

Graceflorrick · 25/10/2016 21:58

Absolutely wonderful!

Sophronia · 25/10/2016 21:58

My friend's one year old is named Edwin. It's a lovely name.

Lovely.

frenchielala · 25/10/2016 22:11

Love it, used to really fancy an Edwin at school who has now gone on to be a very successful man in the arts world, very cool guy.

Foxtato · 25/10/2016 22:12

I love it too, think it's a great first name.

Chinlo · 25/10/2016 22:22

Told you! Wink

chattygranny · 25/10/2016 22:25

Me too, I always think it's a shame it's mainly Edward which is used as they're all good strong names, Edward, Edgar and I've always liked Edmund too.

charlestrenet · 25/10/2016 22:25

Ooh I like it. An underused classic.

FunnysInLaJardin · 25/10/2016 22:27

Love Edwin. Its my Dads middle name and it was going to be DS1's name or middle name, except DH made the mistake of asking some random kid at school what he thought Angry As you can imagine the kid said don't do it!

Tarttlet · 25/10/2016 22:29

It's really lovely! Unusual without being weird.

BikeRunSki · 25/10/2016 22:31

I know a 5 year old Edwin - and an (unrelated) 80 year old one

I don't think I've ever seen a babe thread on here concerned about a name being too obscure/not common enough. It's usually the other way round.

mrsmcbitsy · 25/10/2016 22:34

Thanks everyone! DH has been told he must never question my judgement again Wink!

Late to the party but love love love love.

Nosocksevermatchup · 26/10/2016 01:02

It was on my list of baby names for Ds1, who is now 20. OH wouldn't agree to it. I still love it.

MotherDuckSaid · 26/10/2016 10:55

I bloody love Edwin!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/10/2016 13:32

I absolutely love Edwin, use it as a first name ! 😄

Saci · 26/10/2016 14:03

I know an Edwin. He's always been Ed and people assume he is Edward. I like it. I think it is a better middle name so it won't be shortened to Ed.

DerelictMyBalls · 26/10/2016 14:16

I love Edwin but sadly it doesn't go with our surname.

Shellybobbles82 · 26/10/2016 21:37

I really like it :-)
