Phoenix or Griffin?

Our son has been here a week, but we still can't pick between these 2.

Which one do you prefer? Smile

We have a daughter named Harmony.

We know our liked names aren't to everyone's tastes, but oh well!

Griffin makes me think of the BNP guy, so far that alone I'd opt for Phoenix.

I know a Gryffith and prefer that. But love Griff as an abbreviation either way.

I have a Griff (shortened version of his very Welsh name) and it's an awesome name. Obviously I'm bias but go for Griffin/Griff.

Phoenix was going to be our youngest sons middle name but we decided on Flynn

I know of a 12 yo girl called Phoenix and she's delightful

Report
Chinlo · 09/10/2016 19:20

To me, Griffin is a boy's name, Phoenix is girl's

FWIW, there have been more boys named Phoenix than girls in all of the last 20 years, according to the ONS data. So it's probably unisex but definitely more commonly used for boys in the UK.

Phoenix out of the two.

As you said OP, they're not to everyone's taste, including mine. However, I would go for Griffin. Griff for short is good.

I teach an absolutely lovely Griffin (not shortened to Griff fwiw) so that's my choice!

I know a boy called Phoenix (his mum loves River Phoenix) and he's a very cool kid. I think it would work with your DD's name. Congrats.

Phoenix. Griffin makes me think of Nick Griffin.

Love Griffin (people will soon forget Nick Griffin)

Phoenix is a bit much for me.

The only two other griffins I can think of are a I presume banned fascist right wing leader by the name of Nick and an oafish weirdo loveable weirdo from Family Guy by the name of peter. But go ahead with it. Perhaps harmony will prevail.
