opinions on Elizabeth???

Hi all,
We have a new baby girl who is absolutely gorgeous, but we have really struggled with settling on a name... Neither of us had one that we LOVE so we're left with ones that are "ok".
The clear front runner is Elizabeth, but I was hoping for outsider opinion on it?

I really like it, it's a classy and traditional.

But if you don't LOVE it, you've got plenty of time until you have to register her, so try it and see if it suits her. Congratulations

It is the perfect name - classic, timeless, royal, biblical, literary, has endless nickname potential, and passes the judge/PM test.

It's my name.

It's a good name. Everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it, but it's not overly popular and I was always the only one in my grade.

The downsides:

1. She will get called Liz as a nickname, automatically. Even if you try to use another nickname, people will use Liz/Lizzy naturally.

1. It's a very long name, and a 9 letter name is a pain to write even as an adult. Also, I was disheartened as a child when my name wouldn't fit into the 8-letter-name slots on pencil cases.

1. When I say my name fast, eg. when I answer the phone at work, it comes out in a bizarre jumble that sounds awful.

Otherwise, it's a perfectly good name.

I love Elizabeth or elisabetta. Could also be shortened to Elisa or Elsie!

DD was almost Elizabeth nn Beth or maybe Betsy, I think it's a gorgeous name (we settled on Lucy)

Traditional timeless name that won't date her.

But not one I'd use as I don't like the nicknames Liz / Lizzie. Obviously not an issue if you're happy with the potential shortenings of Elizabeth.

It was on my girl list. I also like it spelt Elisabeth but she'd probably have a lifetime of people spelling it with a z.

I like it. I think it's the right balance of regularly heard & used but not overly popular. I think I know one in every age category from under 2 to over 45.
Tons of nicknames/shortened forms to choose from as well

I love it. All the Elizabeths I've known have been fab.
Also - Elizabeth I is such a kick ass role model.

Love it.... not too common but not unusual either, so your daughter will not have hoards of other girls in her class with the same name, nor will she constantly have to spell out her name or repeat it. If she wants some 'cool' type of career - artist, DJ etc - there are plenty of cool abbreviations like Lizzy. If she wants to become a high court judge or a Head Teacher or whatever, she can be Elizabeth.

My favourite name but I don't like any shortenings other than maybe, Eliza. For that reason, I didn't use it.

My DD7, is an Elizabeth. She was named after my Grandmother whom I adored. There are also other great Elizabeth's - Elizabeth Bennett, Liz Taylor and of course the 2 great queens. We call her Lizzie, though I also loved Betty and ElIza. She would like it if people called her Beth!

There are 3 others in her school, though she is the only Lizzie, there is an Elizabeth, and two Betsys, all younger, all in different years, so it is becoming more popular.

It's not my cup of tea but then again there were only 3 names for girls I liked!

It's a perfect name, for all the reasons PPS have given. I love Beth as a shortened version.

My newborn is Elizabeth. I love it and (if this matters to you) people really compliment her name. I think it's classic yet slightly unusual. There's plenty of shortening potential. One of the reasons we chose it is because we felt an "Elizabeth" fits with any personality she grows in to. Maybe that's true if any name but I felt it was kind of "neutral". I also liked the fact that it's not very "2016" in that you wouldn't be able to guess her age from her name in the future.

Anyway, yes, I'm a fan!
