Maximus is my top boy name. Me and my boyfriend love it but everyone we tell it to says 'oh no you can't call him Maximus' as if it's ridiculous. But it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks really. Maximus, yes or no???

It's up to you.

Ilovewillow · 15/09/2016 21:52

I like it. I knew a Maximillian, also a cool name!

ImperialBlether · 15/09/2016 21:56

Maximilian is a great name. Maxwell has other connotations. Is Maximus a name?

Middleoftheroad · 15/09/2016 21:58

Gladiator

Dontrocktheboat · 15/09/2016 22:00

What if he is small, skinny and a bit of a geek? Would only use if you are certain he will live up to it ( personally not massively keen - Max is ok)

MrsJoeyMaynard · 15/09/2016 22:03

It's very Roman.

Max is nice as a nickname for Maximus.

Sandsnake · 15/09/2016 22:03

Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife?

Pretty cool name, though.

ImAMorningPerson · 15/09/2016 22:03

My sons mare at pre school is Maksymillian... Yes spelt exactly like that.
It's cute and really suits him.
Maximus tho, I dunno...

ImperialBlether · 15/09/2016 22:04

I get so angry at spellings like that!

TheLegendOfBeans · 15/09/2016 22:05

Make sure his middle names are Decimus Meridius 😉

All joking aside, I really like it, and the nn would be Max which is nice too.

QueenLizIII · 15/09/2016 22:06

He will have his vengeance in this or the next.

Cool name though, I do like it.

TheLegendOfBeans · 15/09/2016 22:06

Blether and Morning not to slingshot you but that's the Eastern Bloc way of spelling Maximilian Confused

QueenLizIII · 15/09/2016 22:06

This life or the next

Iamcheeseman · 15/09/2016 22:07

I love it and it was on my shortlist. Day to day they would be known as max anyway.

QueenLizIII · 15/09/2016 22:08

Yup Hotel Maksymilian in Krakow.

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 15/09/2016 22:14

Yes DS has a Polish boy in his class called Maks, that's how it's spelt in Polish.

I too automatically thought of the Gladiator film and all the quotes that previous posters have come out with - it is a fab film and a very strong character but quite a lot to live up to? If you can stand everybody quoting lines from the film at you and your son for the rest of time next few years, then why not?

QueenLizIII · 15/09/2016 22:17

However the film was 16 years ago now.

Will the children of this generation know of it as we do?

Could go the whole mile with Maximus Decimus Meridius.

carrieswar · 15/09/2016 22:19

I have a Max and he gets called Maximus all the time. So maybe go with Max and use Macimus as the nickname if you are unsure.

0pti0na1 · 16/09/2016 09:05

Maximus is a great name and less of a mouthful than Maximillian.

Jooni · 16/09/2016 09:08

It's definitely a cool name, but it's also quite a big name to pull off. Seconding Maximilian as a potential alternative, or how about just Maxim? I love that, very dashing.

ImAMorningPerson · 16/09/2016 10:52

I had idea. Thought it was just a funky new spelling. It's cute either way.

Loving Maxim, very cool... Super cool Infact!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/09/2016 11:10

Yes, call him Maximus. People will call him Max, yet if you named him Max, they would probably lengthen it anyway.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/09/2016 11:13

Love it, love Maxim even more.

girlandboy · 16/09/2016 11:14

A cousin of mine has just called her new baby Maximus, so you wouldn't be the first!
I like it Smile

NameChange30 · 16/09/2016 11:35

I prefer Maxim
