Maximus is my top boy name. Me and my boyfriend love it but everyone we tell it to says 'oh no you can't call him Maximus' as if it's ridiculous. But it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks really. Maximus, yes or no???

Maxim?! As in the lads mag.

NameChange30 · 16/09/2016 13:15

Well I don't read lads mags so it doesn't bother me Grin

OMG I love the name Maxim. My first thought was the magazine but other than that...! Where does it come from, would it be weird on a100% English boy?

Bonnibell · 16/09/2016 14:08

I also have a Max who's name gets lengthen by other people to Maximus

takingthep · 16/09/2016 14:12

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

... is what comes to mind Grin

bloomburger · 16/09/2016 14:13

We have a Maximilian (German/Jewish) as we really liked Max but wanted a proper name but disliked Maxwell and Maximus.

Just not keen on Maximus although I don't know any.

AnyTheWiser · 16/09/2016 14:17

Well, why go for the lowly servant? Go for Marcus.

Annilack · 16/09/2016 14:18

I think it's great! A good strong name.

honks6 · 16/09/2016 14:23

Ds2 is called Maximus, shortened to Max or Maxi

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 16/09/2016 14:28

Love the name Max, and Maximus is great - less of a mouthful than Maximil(l)ian.

The references to one of my fave films "Gladiator" remind me of a friend telling me she was considering the name Saskia if she had a baby girl. Only rl Saskias who came to mind were an English actress and Rembrandt's wife? Anyway someone piped up, "Ooh I couldn't use that. Wasn't she a character in Eastenders who got killed by being hit on the head with an ashtray?" Confused Sorry, sidetrack.

deste · 16/09/2016 14:31

I love it. The Maximus I know is from Belarus and unfortunately he goes home on Sunday after being here one month.

deste · 16/09/2016 14:32

Maksymillian, I despair.

WaitrosePigeon · 16/09/2016 14:41

Very cool, like it.

EssentialHummus · 16/09/2016 14:41

As said upthread, Maksymillian is a perfectly common spelling in eastern Europe. If you live somewhere with a sizeable Polish population, you'll meet one sooner or later.

I think Maximus is a tough name to carry off, would go with some other variant.

NameChange30 · 16/09/2016 14:42

Bendydick (teehee)
Maxim is derived from Maximus so it has the same (Latin) origin. It's popular in Russia and in France, where it's more commonly spelt Maxime.

Chinnygirl · 16/09/2016 14:48

It will probably be shortened to Max. Do you like the name Max?
