I'll start:

Thaddeus
Salcombe (Hardy of the drowned violet eyes in the Peter Wimsey stories)
Malachi.

That's exactly why I couldnt use Ophelia, beautiful name but I'm far too suspicious (what with a career in the theatre and less than perfect mental health record!)...one day I'm going have an aloof white fluffy cat and call her Ophelia. And a grey one called Oberon. And a black one called Othello

Meanwhile I'll just carry on drinking Talisker and Jura, wistfully wishing that's what we'd named our DS and DD

Jooni · 15/09/2016 06:45

DD's name is on here Grin In fact, I think most of these are usable.

Mine are generally just way too much:

Endellion
Pipaluk
Tigerlily
Madelief
Kittiwake

Iskander
Thaddeus
Bartholomew
Florentin
Oskaras

tighterthanscrooge · 15/09/2016 06:50

Cosima but DH wouldn't have it Envy

Hoppinggreen · 15/09/2016 07:34

Lucifer.
It means Bringer of light but not appropriate for obvious reasons.

Seraphina, Persephone

IneedAdinosaurNickname · 15/09/2016 08:06

Superstar90

Dinosaur you could go for Rosie and have posy as her nickname (as in Rosie posy)

Ooooh good idea! Although I'm not actually pregnant. And if I were there is of course no guarantee that I'd have a girl.

Angiepoise · 15/09/2016 09:55

Ruby it's spelt Asa so not the same spelling as the brand... Lovely name.

CaptainCallisto · 15/09/2016 10:15

Boys:
Caspian
Perrin

Girl:
Nynaeve
Patience (DH vetoed that one)

Rubytuesday2980 · 15/09/2016 10:27

Angie we preferred te other spelling for the nature meaning, and DH didn't like the religious connections of Asa. I did try to convince him!

Hopping agree on Lucifer!

Really also liked Lucien for a boy and to shorten to Louie, but we thought it would end up with issues at school - potential for Lucy, not great for a boy.

user1471496843 · 15/09/2016 10:36

Loved Ita for a girl whilst pregnant with my DS. Also Wentworth which exDP wouldn't allow.

Now TTC with DP and I loved Holly-Belle for years however his DD has a sister called Holly Rose. Have loved the name Lily for years however there are four in my 6 year old DS's class.

Trying to convince DP of Arleigh at present.

LonestarStateOfMind · 15/09/2016 11:30

I love love the name Aeneas but it was ruined for me by one of those awful MN what is the worst name you've ever heard type threads where a poster said they went to school with a boy called Aeneas pronounced anus. It is not pronounced anus. Sad

Simmi1 · 15/09/2016 11:36

Anoushka (DH didn't like it)

Dhillon or Arun for a boy ( I had girls)

CitizenBloom · 15/09/2016 11:40

But most of these aren't particularly way out, so (apart from some mentions of a DH/DW who wouldn't go for it, or another family member called it, or it not working with a surname, or a local accent, which I get) - why didn't you use them?

I thought this thread was going to be full of Moon Units, Zowies and Fifi Trixibelles, but a lot of these are perfectly usable names! My son's name was mentioned, and it's an ordinary enough name, and though uncommon in this country, very popular elsewhere - and quite a few other names on here have been used by friends/I know someone called that.

AtiaoftheJulii I've always LOVED the name Calliope (muse of poetry).

Agree it's a hard one to pull off but Calli for short works, doesn't it? (DH would never go for it though ha)

HeyMicky · 15/09/2016 13:06

Dinosaur I have a Josephine who goes by Posey Wink

IneedAdinosaurNickname · 15/09/2016 13:33

HeyMicky I love Josephine so might be able to persuade him into that ;)

We have very different opinions on names. I like classic and pretty. He likes erm... the opposite :/

Honeybee79 · 15/09/2016 13:34

roseteapot101 · 15/09/2016 13:56

JogWithADog · 15/09/2016 14:00

sugar my DD is Calli but not short for Calliope/Callista. In my head I always rhyme Calliope with karaoke but I'm sure it's not meant to sound like that!

hoddtastic · 15/09/2016 14:08

Margaret / Maggie / Peggy - "because Thatcher" (was my grandma's name, I love it)

albertcampionscat · 15/09/2016 16:36

Jooni,

Yay - another Thaddeus. Love Iskander too.
