Louie or Lewie?

I don't understand which one! Louis is French and can be 'Lew-is' in English. But then Lewis could be Lewie for spelling?

One of my personal bug bears is Louis being pronounced as "Lewis" it's WRONG!! They are two lovely but different names!

Just spell it Louis.

The overwhelming majority of people pronounce it loo-ee. Granted the minority who incorrectly pronounce it Lew-is is fairly sizable. They're still wrong though.

I always think it's odd when Louis is pronounced Lewis. To me, it's always been/always will be Lou-ee.

Lewie looks babyish, or like it's a nickname or something.

In France Louis is, of course, pronounced the French way, Lou-ee.

Non French speakers often pronounce it Lou-is like the city of St Louis in the US. I know several boys who pronounce it as Lou-is.

To avoid any doubt (and to make it easier for your son to learn to write his name ), I'd go for Louie!

The gymnast Louis Smith was called "Lewis" on the BBC throughout the Olympics. I assume they've got it right and it wasn't a mistake so I guess it can be pronounced both ways?
