I don't understand which one! Louis is French and can be 'Lew-is' in English. But then Lewis could be Lewie for spelling?

I'm thinking Louie

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/09/2016 11:22

SwichL10 · 07/09/2016 12:07

Louis, obviously.

Come on OP.

MrsCaecilius · 07/09/2016 12:47

Louis, definitely, if you want the sound 'Loo-ee'

Louie is a nn; Lewis is 'loo-is' and Lewie is made up.

Pipilangstrumpf · 07/09/2016 14:50

Both Louie and Louis are in the top 100 boys name last year, with about a 1000 boys each given each name. So it seems that both are acceptable, common names in the UK now.

QueenofallIsee · 07/09/2016 14:51

My son is called Louis - that is the only spelling that is right! I have only ever had 1 person call him Lewis just FYI

HoratioNightboy · 07/09/2016 17:06

Lou-is like the city of St Louis in the US.

But the song is ♫ Meet me in St. Lou-ee, Loui-ee, meet me at the fair ♫

Confused
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/09/2016 17:07

Excellent. Louis is so much nicer.

squoosh · 07/09/2016 17:08

That's probably because it worked better for the song. The city is definitely pronounced St Lewis.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/09/2016 17:16

The only Louie I know of is a girl.

USBstuck · 07/09/2016 17:57

Just use Louis (it looks the best by far) and if anyone pronounces it wrong, just correct them. Simple.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/09/2016 18:21

Nothing wrong with the nickname Lou, like Lou Reed Wink

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/09/2016 18:29

Louis.
Louie is preferable to Lewie.

ambermacy · 07/09/2016 19:53

Hi great name choice!! SmileOur little boy is a Louie. We went for it to help pronunciation and it has worked had no Lewis pronunciation yet! Lots of people have very strong feelings on this but we just went with what we thought best and so glad we did xx

HettyB · 07/09/2016 19:58

Louis, definitely.

If you really want a different spelling, go for Louie.

villainousbroodmare · 07/09/2016 23:34

Louis for preference imo, otherwise Louie.

prettypinkpearls · 09/09/2016 00:08

I prefer Louie to Louis by far.

Tiggeryoubastard · 09/09/2016 00:24

Louis is Loo ee. Lewis's Lewis. Lewie is ridiculously misspelled.

cornishglos · 11/09/2016 21:30

Louis and Lou are excellent names.

Audreyhelp · 12/09/2016 21:03

Louie is good for people that can't pronounce no chance of him being called Lewis. Really love the name.

babyblabber · 12/09/2016 21:37

Louis x1000

Pipilangstrumpf · 12/09/2016 21:56

Doesn't Lou sound like loo Hmm.... not a nice nickname imo...

SerenDippitee · 13/09/2016 18:17

As a teacher, I see a lot of Louises. I check the pronunciation every single time I meet one and I'm sorry to say that the loo-is pronunciation is becoming positively normal.
