This is our shortlist. What do people prefer? How would you rank each name?

DD is Nina, named for a very strong, beautiful and charismatic older woman I know. Obviously I think its an ace name. Travels well though not overused, strong but pretty, spellable.
I love Clara, and Cara, and someone else's suggestion Vita - fabulous.
Isla is very popular round here at the mo.
Thea is very elegant but deffo potential pronunciation issues, which wouldn't bother my but bothers some.
I like short names.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 31/08/2016 22:38

Thea
Willa
Stella
Cara
Suggest, Calla.

WhatTheDickensian · 03/09/2016 07:29

Thank you for all this advice. I think we have settled on Nina.

We want to honour one of her grandmother's with her middle name. Do you prefer Nina Elizabeth or Nina Isadora?

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 03/09/2016 07:50

I love the name Isadora so Isadora Nina Nina Isadora Grin.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/09/2016 07:50

Nina Isadora.

Nonameyet1 · 03/09/2016 11:52

Elizabeth and Isadora are both beautiful! I can't decide!

HettyB · 03/09/2016 18:44
  1. Thea 9/10
  2. Dora 8.5/10
  3. Willa 6/10
  4. Nina 1/10
  5. Kara 0/10
  6. Mila 0/10

So, basically the opposite of fruitbox!

cheesydoesit · 03/09/2016 20:00

Nina is on my list too, so it's an excellent choice! ;)

Janus · 03/09/2016 22:03

Nina Isadora, very beautiful name altogether, don't hear Isadora at all and it's a shame because it is lovely.

MrsGsnow18 · 03/09/2016 23:04

Nina is a good choice.
Nina Elizabeth would be my middle name choice.
When I say Nina Isadora it's like I'm saying Nina is a door ah ( this makes no sense I realise but it's my crazy reasoning)

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 03/09/2016 23:10

Kara
Thea
Mila

I wouldn't choose any of the other three. Nina is one of my least favourite names TBH.

Lara is nice?

user1472934164 · 04/09/2016 02:29

I like Thea and Nina.

I think using Milla or Myla as spellings would get around the 'how do you pronounce Mila?' issue.

Dora will definitely be associated with Dora the Explorer which would make me avoid.

We chose Carla for DD1 and haven't ever regretted it! Less popular than Cara but I think really pretty and works well for both baby and adult. I also prefer the C spellings because of the Kardashians!

user1472934164 · 04/09/2016 02:29

Ps I also love Ida

user1472934164 · 04/09/2016 02:31

Pops only just saw your additional post.

Nina Isadora

LucyBabs · 04/09/2016 02:42

FWIW Cara is an Irish name/word..

Nina is a great name op

whywonthedgehogssharethehedge · 04/09/2016 03:03

I like Nina and Thea. Isadora is beautiful.

I have a Kara as well. The bloody kardashians weren't a thing then. She's kara with a K because I didn't want two kids with same first initial. Speaking of which I also have a Caitlyn (also well before). Had zero kardashian comments so far. She tells everyone she's named after Kara "Starbucks" Thrace and Supergirl (her earth name is Kara.) She wasn't but it keeps her happy and is fine by me as they are two kick ass women.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/09/2016 03:11

I like Nina and Thea best.
Cara with a C, not a K.
And none of the others.
But special loathing for Dora because of the fucking explorer.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/09/2016 03:12

Oops, that'll teach me to miss the update!

Nina Elizabeth, definitely.

FixItUpChappie · 04/09/2016 03:54

You know I really like Nina, Willa is also very sweet....Dora is by far my least favourite

WhatTheDickensian · 05/09/2016 08:06

Now I am having a wobble. A few people have expressed a strong dislike for Nina. Can I ask why? Is it a Marmite name?

OP posts:
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 05/09/2016 09:17

I don't think you'll ever get complete consensus over a name, Dickensian - quite often people don't like a name because of association with people they have known. I have a few of these - never known a nice one, sort of thing.

I only counted 3 or 4 people who didn't like Nina on the thread, that's not many!

The thing is, you and she are going to be the ones who have to live with it - so don't change it on the basis of the opinions of a very few random MNers. (And I'd say that whichever name you picked with the possible exception of Dora Wink)

heateallthebuns · 05/09/2016 18:10

Nina is lovely! I was at school with someone called Nina. To me it sounds a bit like what a Russian ballerina would be called.

Nina Elizabeth is better than Nina isadora as its easier to say. Isadora is gorgeous though. If I had a granny called that I'd be tempted!!

Don't like wila or Dora (the explorer).

annie1959 · 05/09/2016 18:25

I used to know a henpecked-but-happy chap with a teenage daughter called Thea, which due to sense of humour/teenage temperament he unfailingly pronounced "Fear". I'd worry about that - but I think Dorothea is lovely.

KatieCooke · 05/09/2016 20:58

I love Mila but am biased as its my daughters name 😂

purplefox · 05/09/2016 21:00

Willa sounds like it was supposed to be the far prettier Willow.
