Thea, then Willa

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/08/2016 07:50

How is Kara chavvy? I have a Kara. It has always been my favourite name (before the bloody Kardashians) and I have had nothing but compliments for it. I think it is a beautiful name.

I am not keen on any of the others but I don't mind Nina.

Sailingtoanisland · 31/08/2016 07:56

I like Thea from your list.

Alternatives:

Selma

Nora

(C)Lara

(B)Ella

Kiera

MyBreadIsEggy · 31/08/2016 07:56

Mila is my favourite from your list.
It's my Grandmother's name Smile
Second would be Nina or Kara, but as others have said, I prefer Cara to Kara.

WhatTheDickensian · 31/08/2016 09:28

Oh Clara is nice. I like that a lot.

I like Kara. I like K names. No one accused Catherine Middleton of being a Kardashian because she's a Kate and not a Cate.

Ciaragh is a mouthful. DS has one at school and I always think she's called Cleurgh.

VanillaSugar · 31/08/2016 10:09

I loved the name Flavia (from the film The Prisoner of Zenda) but then they brought out that bloody coffee machine.

SecretNutellaFix · 31/08/2016 10:11

In order of preference

Thea
Nina
Kara
Mila
Dora
Willa

Janus · 31/08/2016 12:29

Sorry Being, very much from association with me so that was an unfair comment Smile Flowers

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/08/2016 12:32

Thank you Janus, I work with children so very much know the name association. I was glad I hadn't come across a Kara before I had DD. Didn't want to be put off. Grin

love love love Stella, Clara and Nina.

like the look of Willa but think people might assume the child was called Willow? (am in the SE!)

Leah? Cora?

CancellyMcChequeface · 31/08/2016 14:32

Kara
Dora
Mila
Nina
Thea
Willa

dailymaillazyjournos · 31/08/2016 14:53

Mila and Nina are my favourites. Pretty and unusual. Willa may well get Willy taunts at nursery/school

CakeRattleandRoll · 31/08/2016 15:17

Nina and Cara are my favourites.
Also like pp's suggestion of Cora.
How about Nora(h)? Similar to Dora but without the Explorer association.

VanillaSugar · 31/08/2016 15:39

Nora Jones!!

Mila is pronounced Myla.
I have a friend called Mela. That is how you should spell it, says Mrs Phonetic Guru...

I lived in East Yorkshire and DS came home talking about his friend Primrers.I thought that was an odd name until I saw one of her pictures on the wall. She was actually called Primrose.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 31/08/2016 15:47

I love Dora, Willa and Thea! Dora is my favourite. I don't like Nina or Kara personally. Mila is quite nice too though.

MyBreadIsEggy · 31/08/2016 16:14

Vanilla depends where in the world you are.
Mila is a Polish name - my grandmother's name, and in Poland we would pronounce it "meela"

VanillaSugar · 31/08/2016 16:50

MybreadisEggy I take your point. Dd's bf is Polish so if they had a baby and called it Mila Janioevocek then I would definitely pronounce it Mela.

If, however, the mum is firmly in LeaveLand, then I'd assume it was pronounced Myla. Am I going to get flamed for that comment? ducks

Jooni · 31/08/2016 18:13

Love Willa and Dora, though I think I prefer Dora as a nickname.

PenguinsAreAce · 31/08/2016 21:26

Clara is great Grin

TrainWrecka · 31/08/2016 21:35

I love Thea pronounced Tay-a, rather than Thee-ah. Thats my fave.

Second best is Nina. Lovely, underrated name.

Dora = explorer

Kara and Willa are awful.

TrainWrecka · 31/08/2016 21:36

Not keen on Mila either

PacificOcean · 31/08/2016 21:37

I like Kara and Thea best.

notagiraffe · 31/08/2016 21:42

I love Thea

Not keen on any of the others - especially Willa - makes me worry that she'd be nicknamed Willy and teased.

Ca55andraMortmain · 31/08/2016 21:48

If you like Thea and Dora could you name her Theodora and then you could call her both as nicknames? I have a Thea and although dh chose it and I wasn't massively keen at first, I really love it now.
