We want to name our baby girl Carvela. We have chosen this unique name as we thought of carmel, carmilla and carmela but they are common names on my side of the family which are italian. So we wanted something different.

What do you think of this name?? We have been calling her Carvela already, she is born on the 26th September!

Please don't.

It's awful.

Poor child.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/08/2016 10:58

Shoes again, sorry. It has a nice sound and they're nice shoes, but the brand is the first thing people will think when they hear it.

truemovies · 21/08/2016 10:58

I know it's a shoe brand
But it wasn't intended to be named after that^

So what's your inspiration for it then? Genuinely curious not trying to goady.

LuckySantangelo1 · 21/08/2016 10:58

Valentina is much nicer! Though would be shortened to Val, which isn't so nice.

Kikibanana86 · 21/08/2016 10:59

I thought of shoes straight away too!

Valentina is pretty but could get changed to val which is very grim and middle aged.

user1471771116 · 21/08/2016 10:59

Ive said it in my question

Valentina is so much nicer. I'd go with that. I'd never heard of the shoe thing before but I did instantly think Carvela sounds like some sort of brand name. The fact that it is an actual brand would rule it out for me.

SanityClause · 21/08/2016 11:00

It is the name of a brand of shoes.

Whether you like it or not, people will judge.

TheGreatDessert · 21/08/2016 11:00

Is it even a name though? Google doesn't seem to think so. You would literally be naming your child after a shoe shop Confused

user1471771116 · 21/08/2016 11:01

She wouldn't have it nicknamed.
I agree on val sounding old reminds me of Valerie. ..

I wouldn't use carvela. Your child would be the butt of so many jokes.

Crispbutty · 21/08/2016 11:03

You wouldn't get to decide on nicknames, her peers will.

Sorry both names sound very holkyoaks.

NigellasGuest · 21/08/2016 11:05

Carlita?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 21/08/2016 11:05

Um..... NO.

NigellasGuest · 21/08/2016 11:06

Valentina could also be abbreviated to Tina. If you don't like that either then I would keep it as a middle name. Once she goes to school it WILL be abbreviated by friends.

SarahJinx · 21/08/2016 11:08

Carlotta? Cara? Caralin?

truemovies · 21/08/2016 11:08

So you basically went from Carmilla etc all normal names to a shoe brand. I get that they sound alike, but if there is nothing more to it than that, it sounds ridiculous. Don't do it.

originalmavis · 21/08/2016 11:09

She wouldn't have it nicknamed. That's not so easy in practice - espwcially with a long name!

I like Valentina. I like Valerie/Valeria too.

nancy75 · 21/08/2016 11:09

i know 2 adult Valentinas and they never get called val, I think it's a lovely name. I'm afraid carvela also made me think of shoes

GinIsIn · 21/08/2016 11:10

You may not intend Carvella to be after the shoes, but that's not the point - everybody else will, which does make it a bit of a stupid name - sorry!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 21/08/2016 11:10

Caravella?
Caramella?

user1471771116 · 21/08/2016 11:10

I'm not fond of either of those names but thank you :)

I have been wondering about the name for the past few weeks so that tells me that I've changed my mind about naming her Carvela. I guess I will just have to find another italian name

Chippednailvarnishing · 21/08/2016 11:11

What about Clarks or Freeman Hardy Willis?

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 21/08/2016 11:11

How is Carvela Italian?

EnquiringMingeWantsToKnow · 21/08/2016 11:12

It's not a human's name. It's a brand of shoes.
