Merlin, Kaiser & Wulfric

Travelled up to London for Goddaughter's birthday party today, she's 3 and the party was filled with kids with such daring names.

I met a Merlin, Kaiser, Wulfric, Colt, Sailor (Girl) Dallas (Girl) Ophelia, Illythia and many more.

All 5 & under, I didn't realise daring names had now become the trend, is it just a London thing ?

I have a Wendy & a Kane & I thought those names were daring Blush

When I hear Kaiser I just think of WW1 - not the nicest association with a name

Chelsea26 · 19/07/2016 07:10

I knew a merlin, his brother was algenon

MrsJoeyMaynard · 19/07/2016 07:22

Those names would all be unusual around where I live.

I do come across the occasional child with a "daring" name, but they're outweighed by children with top 50 names. And children with creatively spelt names. There's some bizarre spellings of otherwise fairly ordinary names among DS2s nursery group.

LunaLoveg00d · 19/07/2016 08:49

Kaiser and Wulfric are awful names, except for perhaps a pet. Sailor is an occupation, not a name. The only person i've ever come across with the name Dallas is that science presenter guy, it's an odd choice but not as "out there" as Kaiser.

I knew a Mexican Merlin once. He was amazing - camp as a row of tents, and didn't give a stuff about what people thought. Kaiser is over the line, though.

GerundTheBehemoth · 19/07/2016 08:55

My nephew's middle name (second of two middle names) is Merlin. He does NOT like it. I like it but to me it's a bird rather than a wizard.

nightandthelight · 19/07/2016 12:39

Welsh here so Merlin wouldn't raise an eyebrow although Emrys seems more common among babies and young children in my area.

I am impressed by the range of names. It's all very safe names around here. I'm a bit exotic for having an Alastair!

yaaasqueen · 19/07/2016 15:56

Kaiser is what they always seem to call alsatian police dogs

We were at a well known safari park the other week and one young chap was hollering his friends... Fabio and Egor!!

I know a Merlin, an Arwen, an Aragorn, an Elfie, etc etc.

I also live in Wales.

FedoraRora · 19/07/2016 23:59

I am actually suprised at how not so rare the names are. I was so sure no else would say that they'd met a Kaiser. He also went by Kai, only his Mum called him Kaiser.

FlattenedWhite Shock a Gandalf?!

Olennas, we've never actually had anyone bring up Peter Pan, the association seems to just be a Mumsnet thing

Wordsare, I didn't name my kid Kaiser!
