Merlin, Kaiser & Wulfric

Travelled up to London for Goddaughter's birthday party today, she's 3 and the party was filled with kids with such daring names.

I met a Merlin, Kaiser, Wulfric, Colt, Sailor (Girl) Dallas (Girl) Ophelia, Illythia and many more.

All 5 & under, I didn't realise daring names had now become the trend, is it just a London thing ?

I have a Wendy & a Kane & I thought those names were daring Blush

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You did not meet a Merlin Shock

Mrsraypurchase · 18/07/2016 19:56

Colt?!!

Sierra259 · 18/07/2016 19:56

Blimey!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/07/2016 19:57

Merlin is relatively common among old Welsh blokes. I know a couple of Merlins. I think of it as a nice old bloke name to be honest, like Stan or Alf.

ShowOfHands · 18/07/2016 19:57

My mate is called Merlin. His sister is called Elfin!

Gowgirl · 18/07/2016 19:57

Lots of caspers, Oscars and olivers guy here!
I need a more exotic toddler groupGrin

JennyOnAPlate · 18/07/2016 19:58

My dentist is called merlin!

MaisieDotes · 18/07/2016 19:59

Ah ok, tinkly

I am ignorant of Welsh ways. I thought it was just a wizard name.

FedoraRora · 18/07/2016 20:02

Maisie, Merlin was such a lovely little lad, the look on my face when I heard his name makes me feel slightly bad, no idea if they were Welsh or not.

MrsRay, oh yeah, his Mom thinks it sounded a lot like Kane, so we got to talking quite a bit Grin

Gowgirl, I feel exactly the same way, even though my kids are too old for toddler groups. I know far too many Tommys, Oliver's & Williams.

ShowofHands Shock I did not meet an Elfin, I wish I had though.

I know a 14.year old Merlin.

Haven't come across any of the others.

JasperDamerel · 18/07/2016 20:11

Not just a London thing. I know two Merlins, and quite a lot of similarly unusually-named children.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 18/07/2016 20:12

Merlin, Kaiser and Wulfruc sound like dogs to me. Specifically, sled dogs with pale blue eyes that look like they might turn on you if stranded in the wilderness and a bit peckish.

HoratioNightboy · 18/07/2016 21:13

Nothing unusual about Dallas - it's been a unisex name in Scotland for hundreds of years. Colt, Sailor and Kaiser are the only ones that would raise an eyebrow as at least the others are real names.

Liz09 · 18/07/2016 21:18

I wouldn't even look twice at someone named Ophelia or Dallas. They don't seem too "out there" to me. Merlin is cool, but I wouldn't be brave enough to use it.

The others are just... no. Especially Kaiser. Great name for a German Shepherd, but awful for a child.

iklboo · 18/07/2016 21:22

I know a Maerlyn

Sophronia · 18/07/2016 21:57

I know an Elfin in her 20s! and a 5 year old Kaiser

DamsonGinIsMyThing · 18/07/2016 22:01

I thought this was going to be a 'doghouse' thread.

Vixxfacee · 18/07/2016 22:03

You have a daughter Wendy Shock

FedoraRora · 18/07/2016 22:16

Vixxface, what's wrong with Wendy Confused and before you say Peter Pan, we've never had anyone think that.

Sophronia, Another Kaiser I thought he was one of a kind Shock

I love Sailor

emilybohemia · 18/07/2016 23:13

I think Wendy is cute.

I LOVE Elfin.

Sophronia · 18/07/2016 23:16

Fedora, the one I know goes by Kai most of the time!

Mclaren37 · 19/07/2016 07:02

I love Sailor for a girl too! I'm surprised Dallas is so common amongst MN-ers. I've never heard of one and I probably would raise an eye brow. Shows what I know.. That said, our toddler group is equally unusual with Cameron, Tatiana, Fife, Renzo, Airlie, Weston, Odin, Uma and Romy. Agreed it may be a London thing.

JudyCoolibar · 19/07/2016 07:03

Kaiser is an absolutely terrible name, and Wulfric is calculated to make a child a laughing stock.

honeysucklejasmine · 19/07/2016 07:05

Wulfric is one of Dumbledore's middle names.
