For a boy- I think I love it. Any thoughts?

Other names we love are
Monty
Erwin

I assumed this was for a girl tbh. It does make me think of the guy from Little Women, but that spelling is used for girls a lot in America as Laurence is a French girl's name.

Lawrie is better for a boy imho.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2016 16:16

Love Laurie - dd1 was going to be it if a ds.
Monty fine.
Don't like Erwin at all, sorry.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2016 16:17

I think it looks silly as Lawrie.

plimsolls · 17/07/2016 16:18

I love Laurie. It's on my list although doesn't really work with surname. I would go Laurence as then shorten to Laurie (although I do understand that not everyone agrees with the long/short name thing) b

HettyB · 17/07/2016 17:08

I like Laurie (but would use it as a nn for Laurence)

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 17/07/2016 17:23

Lovely name, I went to school with one in Infants though and always thought he was called Lorry. I thought it was strange he was named after a vehicle. It only recently occurred to me, that he must have been a Laurie.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 17/07/2016 17:40

Bit girly for my liking, sorry.
Monty sounds like a budgie
Erwin is about the best out of an awful bunch

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 17/07/2016 19:19

I like it! Completely love Lawrence though so I would probably go for that with nn Laurie.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 17/07/2016 19:35

I love Laurier (and Laurence) sadly vetoed for me by DH.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 17/07/2016 19:36

Laurie got autocorrected by my ipad!

MumOnACornishFarm · 17/07/2016 19:47

I love it! I prefer Laurie to Lawrence, and it reminds me of Little Women which I loved as a child. I've got no problem with using the diminutive as the actual name, though I know some get their knickers in a twist about it.

OH and I were discussing Monty only last night; it's a contender for our DS2 due in Oct. We would go with Monty rather than Montague or Montgomery.

I'm not mad about Erwin. What about Ewan?

I also love Florrie as a nn for Florian, but most people tell me it's too 'girly'. OH has vetoed it. Sad

SuburbanRhonda · 17/07/2016 19:49

Might his little friends think it was Lorry? Grin

soundsystem · 17/07/2016 19:50

I love Laurie. It was on my list but it's a bit too close to my own name. And DC1 was a girl.

SoggyBeachDays · 17/07/2016 22:44

Really love it. Reminds me of Laurie Lee and Little Women - fab literary connotations. It's a very wholesome but potentially "cool" name IMO.

GerundTheBehemoth · 17/07/2016 22:52

I like it - it's my dad's name. He's 84 (but still somewhat cool).

Pipilangstrumpf · 18/07/2016 07:33

Looks very feminine. Also think of Laurence as a girls name. Boys version would be Laurent. Or Lawrence in English.

fastdaytears · 18/07/2016 07:36

I love Laurie, it's one of my favourite for a boy.

definitely don't like it with the w.

fastdaytears · 18/07/2016 07:37

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurence_Fox

Laurence with a u is good enough for my future husband!

BellMcEnd · 18/07/2016 07:38

Love Laurie for a boy. Really great name. I'd probably have Lawrence / Laurence on the both certificate though for more options as they grow up.

Not keen on Monty. Not heard of Erwin but really like it. Sounds a bit Lord of The Rings-ish (not a bad thing, imo)

BellMcEnd · 18/07/2016 07:38

*birth

CatyB · 18/07/2016 10:34

I would suggest Lawrence, as Laurie sounds a bit too feminine ?

Sophronia · 18/07/2016 12:12

Love Laurie as a shortened form of Laurence

Lizziedoll · 18/07/2016 17:24

I love Laurie. I know a little Laurie and he is so lovely

missybct · 18/07/2016 17:26

I love Laurie, but has been vetoed by my partner Angry

willconcern · 18/07/2016 17:29

I love Laurie. As a name in itself, not shortened from Lawrence.
