Really struggling for a boys name for DC1, please share your thoughts on Rufus? I like it but worried may could go off it in time...I am very indecisive!

Reminds me of Rufus Wainwright. I like it.

Liz09 · 01/07/2016 01:02

I don't hate it by any means, but I would hate to think he might be called Rufie (roofies like the date-rape drug) as a nickname. I like Rupert, which is similar? Rupert makes me think of the bear, despite the fact that my best friend has a Great Dane dog by this name. Smile

I know a boy called Rufus and he's really cute. Sometimes known as Roo. Go for it!

I have a Rufus

Here's my Rufus

Rufus ?

Love Rufus. Very classic and cool. I know brothers Rufus and Fergus which I love. Anyway 'pet names' (Rufus, Oscar, Casper, Felix etc) were reclaimed as kids names back in 2008ish - go for it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/07/2016 09:34

I like Rufus. For some weird reason my father used it as a nn for my brother. I don't associate it with dogs.
It's traditional without being in the least common, though you might start a trend!

mellmumma · 01/07/2016 09:35

Love!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 01/07/2016 09:40

Love!

(And my DFriend had a family feud so nasty that brother 1 named his 2 dogs after brother 2's kids! Not even doggie names - think Patrick and Simon - the whole dog name thing is a red herring....)

Onedaftmonkey · 01/07/2016 09:41

I can only think of 3 Rufus's Waignwright , Hound and Sewell. Nice uncommon name. Strong and interesting. Go for it.

Packergator · 01/07/2016 09:43

I have a Rufus! Have never known a dog called Rufus. I have met dogs called Ben and Toby and Mollie but you wouldn't think twice about those as 'human' names. Daisy is very popular for girls; is that a 'cow' name? Plus, the whole concept of a 'dog' name is ridiculous...surely we just give dogs human names? Do they even have names amongst themselves? What do they call each other!? Shock (tangent)

Anyway, my Rufus is adorable. Knowing him now, the other names we had as back up would never have suited him. So glad we didn't veto it on potentially canine grounds!

I really like it. But I also know several dogs with the same name and that was what come to my mind first.

HumphreyCobblers · 01/07/2016 09:47

It is a great name.

I also like Rex, also considered a dog's name.

I have a Toby

Reetabiscuiteater · 01/07/2016 09:49

I would have loved to call ds3 Rufus but Dh said no. We have a nephew called Bruno which I thought was a dog's name but actually it really suits him. Go for it.

BabooshkaKate · 01/07/2016 09:50

Sounds too much like "roofies" to me Hmm

freddybear100 · 01/07/2016 09:52

We have a Rufus but he is of the furry variety!

Rufus ?
bouncyball16 · 01/07/2016 15:15

Thank you everyone for your replies, I have never known a dog called Rufus so was surprised it got so many dog comments. I don't think there's such thing as a 'dogs name' (except maybe Rover!)
After reading some of the positive comments I was set to go with it...now DH is wavering! Arghhh this baby naming game is tough!

Bit late to the thread but we have a gorgeous Rufus and it suits him so much.
Never had anything but compliments on his name Smile

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 30/07/2016 19:06

Lovely 😊

For an Irish Setter.

Trumpette · 30/07/2016 19:08
