Ooh, I love Astrid!

Allalonenow · 26/05/2016 08:35

Astrid is fabulous!

manicinsomniac · 26/05/2016 08:38

Love both but Astrid is just amazing - one of my favourite names.

gingerboy1912 · 26/05/2016 08:54

Ava

ElectroStallion · 26/05/2016 08:59

Astrid, no question.
But Ava should be spelled Eva.

Britnyspears · 26/05/2016 08:59

Ava is common now (unfortuneatly, i adore Ava Gardner).
Astrid is very strong! Love it.

RainbowsAndUnicorns5 · 26/05/2016 09:03

I don't like Astrid, seems very blunt. How many syllables in your surname?

Kaytronkit · 26/05/2016 09:51

Thanks all, please keep your opinions coming, it's good to know what people think before you settle on a name. Our surname is one syllable, I know what you mean that's why I was unsure when I say 'Astrid' to myself sometimes it doesn't sound right but maybe I'm just overthinking it. I think it's a really pretty name but I suppose that's because I like it whereas some people may not x

Astrid!

Ava is stale - lots of them around (& you get the Eva/Ava issue too). Love Astrid.

ABitAsleep · 26/05/2016 10:41

Ava is very popular right now, it would put me off for that reason.

I like Astrid, it's more unusual, but not too wacky. It reminds me of stars and space, and also kind of gladiators (Possibly from the character on How To Train Your Dragon)

I also like Astra and Aster

FlyDragonfly1 · 26/05/2016 10:54

Astrid is lovely. Reminds me of the Kylie Minogue character in Doctor Who and How to Train Your Dragon (both lovely characters).

Ava is very over-done where I live. I know of five born in the past year, as well as a couple of Ava-May/Ava Grace type names. I can see the appeal of it but it's extremely popular at the moment.

IoraRua · 26/05/2016 13:09

Astrid.
There's a bit more to it than Ava. Ava is a bit bland imo.

HouseOfBiscuits · 26/05/2016 13:18

I prefer Ava. Astrid sounds quite harsh.

Absolutelyfabulously · 26/05/2016 13:19

I know of an Astrid who has the nickname Asta - best of both worlds.😀

LillyVonSchtupp · 26/05/2016 13:19

Astrid is fantastic.

Avas are bloody everywhere. It and all it's variants have been done to death and then done some more.

BeckyWithTheMediocreHair · 26/05/2016 13:22

Astrid for sure.

Ava / Eva / Evie is so popular (and why would you spell it Eva if you wanted Ava? The pronunciations are totally different in the uk).

Sophronia · 26/05/2016 13:54

Astrid! Ava is nice but so popular.

twinjocks · 26/05/2016 15:01

Astrid - for all the reasons given above!

BoboBunnyH0p · 26/05/2016 19:44

Astrid, less popular, strong but not too harsh sounding.

houseeveryweekend · 26/05/2016 19:49

Both are gorgeous but personally id go for Astrid as its less common.... i think Ava is in the top ten girls names for last year so there might be alot of girls around called Ava when she goes to school x

Kaytronkit · 26/05/2016 20:24

Thanks all, it's definitely looking like the majority prefer Astrid. I love that it means 'divinely beautiful' aswell. It might be the one!

Astrid.

Ava has been done to death over the last 7 or 8 years.

n0ne · 27/05/2016 11:36

My DD was nearly an Astrid. Gorgeous.

pilates · 27/05/2016 13:44

Ava.

Astrid sounds harsh.

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/05/2016 13:59

I don't like the ass sound in Astrid and Ava is a bit overly popular. So I'm not sure really.
