izzy.... short for?

We already have a Theodore, known as Teddy. We have a short list of boys names but no girls names for #2 due shortly...,. Help!

I love izzy. But what is it short for and is it just used too often these days?!

Is the list the name you'd use then the name you'd put on the birth certificate?

Are you worried about popularity? I think Teddy & Izzy are like the 2 most popular names ever, around these parts at least. So I'd go for Astrid from his list, Gisele nn Gigi from your list, personally. Although I do feel Gigi is quite exotic so don't think my kids at least (as British as it's possible to be) could pull that off.

I think most people would assume Izzy is short for Isobel or one of the variants of that name.

I really wouldn't call my daughter Tatty, even if it is only a nickname. To me it's either shabby or a potato.

I would say Isadore, but with Theodore it might be too similar

I have no idea how you get Izzy from half the names above. How do Gisele or Cosima mean Izzy?

I would go with Astrid. But wouldn't get the nn Izzy from that.

I do know of an Elizabeth nn Izzy, but it's hard to remember that her name isn't Isobel IYKWIM.

Way to ruin an otherwise lovely name! And so many of the names you've listed in the OP are beautiful. Izzy is not.

Some celebs names their kid Elisabelle, that could work.

Izzy is short for Isobel. There is no point having it as short for Isolde or iseult (not a name I know) as it's the same number if syllables, though could still be used affectionately. I don't like either if your Iso- names. It's not short for any of your other suggestions.

Astrid coco ok, astrid Rose or astrid grace better but just because I like single syllable mn.

Bea - short for Beatrice (prefer to Beatrix)

Tilly / Mathilda fairly classic but overdone round here.

Kitty - Katharine / prefer Catherine

Isabella too but think that would naturally be nn Bella

I'm really not a fan of this whole nickname vs birth certificate name thing so I'd just choose a name that you like that you actually want to call them!!

Fwiw Tatty is bloody awful! I would suggest Tia as a preferable nn to Tatiana if required.

Do not call her Tatty whatever you do. It's awful with horrible connotations, and you already have a son called Teddy - Tatty Teddy

Isadora Belle sounds like a question 'is a door a bell?'! Plus you say Isadora I think 'Duncan'.

It seems like you're more concerned with picking a nickname and trying to make an actual name fit it. What if she ends up hating the nickname?! My name has a very commonly used nickname and I absolutely detest it. If my Mum had named me on the basis of using that nickname she'd have been sorely disappointed and I would have been really pissed off as I've always hated it. Thankfully she didn't, and the actual name is fine so that's what I've always been known as. Something to bear in mind though when choosing based on nicknames!

Astrid is lovely! But I personally don't really see the connection to Izzy? However, many people have nns that have nothing to do with their given names. So Izzy would still work :)

I've only heard of Izzy as a nickname for lsobel (or one of it's variants).

I can see how you'd get Izzy from Isodora, but it doesn't really naturally fit as a nickname for the other names you mention.

I also have shabby / potato connotations for Tatty.

The shortened version of Tatiana is Tanya/Tania. Not Tatty, which is short for Potato.

The tatty connection with teddy was a new one for me! Definitely can't use it and the whole link with potatoes and shabby is too much anyway.

DH family have a history of nn with no connection to the real name so is quite normal for us.

Isolde has a Welsh connection hence its inclusion. & DH loves opera so also has a connection there!

I love araminta nn minty and you don't hear it very often at all these days. However DH is not keen, but not coming up with an alternative.

I would love an araminta rose. Or araminta India ( altho perhaps too much with the "a" ending...)

Astrid has really grown on me but DH seems v anti. Tbh he has no suggestions of his own.

How do others get their other half to take part in this decision?!!
