I am 27 weeks pregnant with a baby girl. Have 2 choices for the name either

Poppy Iris
Ruby Iris

Which one would you pick?

I prefer Poppy, and have always loved it. Ruby to me is just meh.

Although they are both quite 'cutsey' and lovely for babies and children, but can't really imagine them on adults. However there are plenty of babies with these sorts of names now, so in 20 years it will be normal for adults i suppose. I just can't picture a Ruby or a Poppy as the Prime Minister or the CEO of a big business.

KERALA1 · 10/05/2016 13:05

Poppy doesn't work for the over 8 s IMO though will be shouted down by all the mums of Poppy's no doubt.

allegretto · 10/05/2016 13:07

I prefer Iris as a first name but if I had to choose - Ruby.

MitzyLeFrouf · 10/05/2016 13:08

Definitely Iris Wink

Is there no chance that Iris could be in the running as first name? It really is lovely, and much lovelier than the other two.

RaeSkywalker · 10/05/2016 13:09

I prefer Poppy. However, I think Ruby would suit an adult more.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/05/2016 13:15

Poppy

FudgeCat91 · 10/05/2016 13:19

Always loved Poppy. Earmarked for any future daughter of mine :)

megletthesecond · 10/05/2016 13:22

Iris.

Poppy and Ruby are both nice but have been used a lot over the last few years.

EagleRay · 10/05/2016 13:25

Poppy is lovely by DD has 4 friends of this name in her class at nursery!

If you like flower names, there's loads of lovely ones which aren't used nearly as much - my newborn has one!

Pinkheart5915 · 10/05/2016 13:25

Maybe time to rethink not using Iris as a first name

I dont like Iris.

Poppy is much nicer.

Hecegoza · 10/05/2016 13:30

Ruby

Flopsyhopsy · 10/05/2016 14:25

I really dislike both Poppy and Ruby, sorry.

But Iris is lovely!

pilates · 10/05/2016 15:38

Ruby Iris

HamaTime · 10/05/2016 15:50

I think Iris preceded by either makes it sound like an eye disease, although I like Iris best out of the three by a country mile

twinjocks · 10/05/2016 15:57

Ruby - lovely name

sonlypuppyfat · 10/05/2016 15:57

Not very keen on names that end in y or ie I think they sound a bit girly if that makes any sense

mrsschu · 10/05/2016 16:07

I prefer Iris too but beyond that Poppy is nicer than Ruby IMO. I think Ruby will become very dated. I know a Poppy who is in her late 30's and has a senior job in Finance so I don't think of it as not suiting an adult.

MessyBun247 · 10/05/2016 16:10

I think Poppy suits a baby/child, but not a teenager or adult.
I like Ruby Smile

RiverTam · 10/05/2016 16:11

All are lovely. I'd go Iris, Ruby, Poppy.

firawla · 10/05/2016 16:12

Poppy, I like both though

Pinkheart5915 · 10/05/2016 17:40

Will have another talk with DH about Iris as a first name he wasn't keen before, our middle ground was Ruby or Poppy as a first name as he liked Elizabeth but I really don't.
I want Iris in the name somewhere after my 86 year old grandmother.

EllenDegenerate · 10/05/2016 18:37

I think they've both had their day and won't be due a resurgence for fifty years or so.

CPtart · 10/05/2016 18:55

Both rather wet. Iris is ok.
Elizabeth is much nicer. Classier, strong and timeless with options for plenty of nicknames.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 10/05/2016 19:03

Poppy - I am a little biased though as I have one Wink.

I also love Iris & think it would be great as either a first or middle name.

I'm not keen on Ruby.
