At this rate I will be registering 'blank' at the birth (than using the year to name the baby. Not ideal really and who's to tell I find on then..

Here's the challenge...

I am looking for a girl's name

  • one or 2 syllables
  • a warm open sound
  • Feminine although not silly strong rounded name
  • Could have a naturalistic element
  • Could be uncommon
  • From anywhere around the world
  • Could be unisex

If you can help me find that name...I will endevour to send you a voucher for drink or small pressie....and loads of thanks and cyber hugs. I have been looking for 8 mths and no I'm not fussy , honest. Bye mumsnetters, although I'm not expecting miricles, you have been pretty awesome on my journey, so I think this is worth a shot. I just remembered Merle (sounds like Pearl with an 'M')

There was a beautiful actress called Merle Oberon:

What's odd is that I was going to suggest Estelle and when I looked up Merle Oberon I found out her name was Estelle Merle, though she went by Merle ... She was an actress in the 1930s-early 70's, I think, and played opposite Laurence Olivier in Wuthering Heights in 1939.

I'm pretty sure Merle is French for blackbird.

I think it's pretty, has a nature feel about it due to its meaning...only if only you know Smile and is only one syllable. Estelle is lovely too. It is also French, having its roots in Latin: stella means star.

Not in response to the last couple of poster, by the way!

cheekstime · 05/05/2016 13:34

Hello!!!! everyone, I can't get over this, I've logged on to have a quick check of post and loads overnight, its just great. Thank you for all your suggestions, explanations and views, really interesting.

To answer "WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant" poster: theres about 10 names in running, some I thought of and some new!

I will have to start going back through writing these down as so many posts now, otherwise I will get lost in name post mania.

Hi "TheDowagerCuntess" I'm looking for either one or two sounds. Call me simple but suit my ear and mouth better,

Love to you all, bye for now

Do let us know your shortlist, at least, when the time comes.

JasperDamerel · 06/05/2016 10:52

That sounded bossier than I intended. I meant that I've got quite excited about the names in this thread and would love to know the ones that were along the right lines.

cheekstime · 10/05/2016 21:24

O lord, I'm going back to the drawing board my OH still isn't keen on the ones here he already new about and the couple of new ones. We finally had a chance to chat through. I do get what he means though on all counts, just so difficult not knowing. We are ok for the boys names but girls a nightmare. Thanks a million though, will keep thinking, or maybe not thinking perhaps that's the answer!!

Hi JasperDamerel, will still get back with a shortlist when one done though :/
