Just that, really!

Is the Nora Batty thing still strong enough to put people off a lovely name?

Nina is much nicer. Don't like Nora at all, sorry.

LadyAntonella · 03/05/2016 21:35

I love Norah with the H. I would think of Norah Jones not Batty.

DramaAlpaca · 03/05/2016 21:36

Nina, by a long way.

I really don't like Nora, sorry.

GottaGetThisDone · 03/05/2016 21:37

I love Nora - never think of Nora Batty

Ffion3107 · 03/05/2016 21:39

Aah I loved both for ours, but we found out today we're having boy, and haven't seen a name we like yet!
If I had to choose it would be Nora! Will she have a middle name?x

HighDataUsage · 03/05/2016 21:40

How about the Arabic name Nouriya which is Similar to Nora but sounds nicer. It also means light and radiance which is a lovely meaning.

YonicTrowel · 03/05/2016 21:40

Nina was on my shortlist. Do it!

mrsschu · 03/05/2016 22:13

Nora is dreary and dreadful, Nina is fab.

Leopard12 · 03/05/2016 22:15

Nora definitely for me, but maybe that's because I know a girl called nina and didn't like her! Also sounds like Gina that I hate Hmm everyone has a personal preference neither are awful so just go with what sounds right to you and oh, you can always try both out when she's born a decide then!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 03/05/2016 22:21

Nina. Pretty elegant strong powerful feminine. Not too common.
Nora. Makes me think of old ladies with their blue rinses and shopping trollies, sorry

Lucked · 03/05/2016 22:24

I like both but love Nina and it is underused. DH didn't warm to it so it didn't make our shortlist despite my repeated attempts to sneak it on.

WhingyNinja · 03/05/2016 22:24

I am a Nina so I am biased, I know a 1yo Nora though and she's adorable!

Fwaffy · 03/05/2016 22:25

I think Nora is gorgeous. Makes me think of the children's programme "Nelly and Nora". Very cute.

Leopard12 · 03/05/2016 22:25

Throw in a another suggestion, I know a little Nova and now love that name.

StormyBlue · 03/05/2016 22:39

At first, I thought Nora Batty, frumpy old lady. But, that will be so far off our children's radar when they become socially aware that it's probably something worth trying to see past when naming DC. I could well see it coming back.

StormyBlue · 03/05/2016 22:40

I also thought of Nelly and Nora! Cute little Irish cartoon girl. Smile

Stripedduvet · 03/05/2016 22:43

Nina makes me think of Tina, which I don't like.
Nora is very elegant. The Nelly and Nora show is also very sweet.

I think I prefer the Arabic name Nourah (the 'nour' bit has a slightly more 'noo' sound than 'nor'). It means light /radiant.

BackforGood · 03/05/2016 22:47

Nora does get an instant thought of "Batty" from me, I'm afraid (and my teens - as that is what wrinkly tights are called - they've never watched the programme as far as I'm aware, but would still say "Batty").

Winterbiscuit · 03/05/2016 23:20

Nina

QuimReaper · 03/05/2016 23:38

How about Leonora?

Nina is nicer than Nora to me. I like Leonora though.

Sophronia · 04/05/2016 00:31

Nina is lovely

HanYOLO · 04/05/2016 00:43

DD is Nina, which suits her, is easy to spell, and not too commonplace. I also know a couple of strong and inspiring Ninas in their 60s/70s.

My friend's DD is Leonora - which I think is wonderful, but which is never shortened.

I like Norah too.

(I also liked Nuala and Ngaire but wasn't allowed on the spelling issue. )

Paddletonio · 04/05/2016 01:12

I like both

If Norah with H then I would go for that, otherwise I think maybe Nina. But both very nice.

joyfulworld · 04/05/2016 07:57

Nina is prettier I think.

HappydaysArehere · 04/05/2016 08:15

Nina conjures up a feminine pretty girl. Norah as plain and old fashioned! Nelly as sweet and pretty!
