Thoughts on January for a girl?

Really like it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/04/2016 20:59

I struggle with month names. Not because I don't like them because to me it sounds a bit odd if the baby isn't born in that month but also a bit twee if they were Confused

LadyAntonella · 23/04/2016 21:04

Love it.

PickleBot · 23/04/2016 21:53

What Ali said.

Sophronia · 23/04/2016 22:01

I quite like it

DerelictMyBalls · 23/04/2016 22:03

Yes, it's lovely.

Wolfiefan · 23/04/2016 22:04

It's a month not a name?
Jan?

DrunkenMissOrderly · 23/04/2016 22:07

Yeah she would end up being called Jan...not the prettiest name.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/04/2016 22:07

April, May and June are well established names as well as being months...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/04/2016 22:08

I like it.

Falling270 · 23/04/2016 22:47

Love this name.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 23/04/2016 23:15

Very nice. Is she due in January or did you conceive then.

Wolfiefan · 23/04/2016 23:16

April
May
June
Names.
January not so much.

AngharadTheSplendid · 25/04/2016 06:44

I like that it is different. But not a fan of Jan. And also I find January a little bit of a depressing month, so not a great association. But maybe that's just me.

NashvilleQueen · 25/04/2016 06:48

It's entirely up to you what name you choose of course but I can't help wondering whether you genuinely think that this is the best name in the entire world to go for? It's just a random month and one which generally conveys post-Christmas gloom, cold weather and dark nights. It's also uncommon so you'd have to explain your thinking to people (as would your DD) for years to come. I'm speaking from bitter experience here!

If you absolutely have your heart set on it then you should do it. Otherwise I would reflect on it a little while.

BakingBunty · 25/04/2016 20:39

I love it. And so do you, or you wouldn't be considering it. So go for it! Would be right up there on the list if DD2 came along!

Myself and my DH are both born in January, we are not currently trying but when we do I would like to plan for her to be born in January too, the only thing that stops me is the NN Jan but at a push we could maybe use Annie?

OP posts:
Thebrowntrout · 25/04/2016 21:46

I quite like it, although it's very unusual which would put me off.

I mean, I know unusual names have their positives but in years to come, someone applying for a job called Annie who isn't successful and reapplies in a couple of years isn't remembered; someone called January is.

It can be a bit 'public' having a very unique name.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/04/2016 22:07

Well it's still April, so. Perhaps if you get busy tonight. She might come in time for January WinkGrin

julfin · 25/04/2016 23:29

Speaking from experience, it's rather ambitious to try to plan which month your baby is born in. Good luck!

I'm afraid I broadly agree with Ali's first comment. Seems random if she's not born in that month, and a bit twee or unimaginative if she is.

But as a name in itself, January is quite nice. Nothing against Jan either, and as you say, Annie is nice too.

Marcipex · 26/04/2016 00:40

February is nicer, and has a precedent..there are some books with a heroine called February.

Catinthecorner · 26/04/2016 01:02

January Jones is precedent surely?

NerrSnerr · 26/04/2016 03:16

That's a lot of pressure to try and conceive in one month.

I'm not keen on January. It doesn't sound like a name to me and it makes me think of dreary cold, dark nights.

Fridgedooropen · 26/04/2016 03:21

I think of January Jones (who benefits from alliteration) but also the song '..Since we met, you've been hanging on me...'
